Hi there, I'm Ekin from Turkey. I always loved history, possibly thanks to playing first Total War and later Europa Universalis. Then a year ago I started reading history more seriously.My primary area of interest is early modern European history, especially focusing on Habsburgs and the Low Countries in the period 1450-1650.
I'm trying to avoid pop history and to read more academic works. Good book or article recommendations will be appreciated.

Hi everyone. My name is Kevin Gulick. I am originally from the U.S., the Philadelphia PA area, and now have made it half way around the world to be living in the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia area. I got into reading history and biographical history when I picked up a book about my favorite president Abraham Lincoln from the elementary school library many moons ago. I'm getting into other presidents and other historical figures now that were prominent in U.S. history. I also have an interest in English history to a certain extent as well. My "to read" list is quite eclectic with a bit of history, sci-fi, fantasy, biographies and a bunch of other areas. I hope to learn a lot from you guys and see where this all goes from here.

Ok... who am I... The basics: I'm an Air Force Brat that started school in Taiwan and graduated from HS at Patch Barracks in W. Germany. I've lived in over 10 states and 3 foreign countries.
Education: BA in History and BA in Religion---Asia focus in both.
I completed the course work for a Master's level degree in Church History. I did earn an MBA in accounting and finance.
Professional: I'm a supervisor of continuous audit, a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Audit (CIA), and an Eagle Scout. I am also a professional balloon twister.
Current readings:
I am usually working on 5-6 book at a time and finish 1-2 a week. Half of them are on the Civil War. About 20% deal with Early American History, 10% Early 20th Century American History, 10% Civil Rights/Black History, and 10% everything else.
Within the above periods I particularly like biographies on presidents, naval history, and law.
Oh, I should also mention, I'm a Cub Master with 4 kids (4-14)...To answer Emlymom's question:
I read 2-3 hours a day... about an hour on the bus to/from work and 1-2 hours after the kids go to bed.
I'll also listen to 1-2 hours of a book on Audible a day.

Hi guys! My name is Soumik and I am from India.I used to read only crime and fantasy novels, but then I started reading

and loved it. Also, till a few years back, most popular historical figures to me were either totally perfect - with no character flaws or bad decisions, or completely evil. Having read more, I have come to see history in a bit more realistic way, and would love to learn more.

Hi, I am Rae and am in the UK. I wanted to share my obsession with WW2 Merchant Navy history with anyone else who is interested. My grandfather died on PQ17, the most desperately tragic of the Arctic convoys. A few years ago I came into possession of 100+ letters he had written to my grandmother - fair enough to call them loveletters - and this set me set off on my own literary voyage, through fact and fiction: the Cruel Sea, HMS Ulysses, the Lonely Sea, Destroyer, Three Corvettes, Das Boot (TV series and film), Through Salt-Sprayed Eyes, PQ17 Convoy to Hell, and of course David Irving's The Destruction of PQ17. Irving drew on surviving 3rd Officer Ned Forth's diary to describe my grandfather's death on the bow of the lifeboat in painstaking detail, with a brief homage to his character that left its mark on my family to this day. I met up with Ned a couple of years before he died, aged 93, and visited a tremendous exhibition of naval war art at Greenwich. Anyway, we're coming up to Remembrance Sunday here in the UK and it got me thinking about it all again. I'd love to hear from anyone who has read any of the books above. Long post... thanks for reading to the end!

Hello everyone! My name is Igor Palmeira, I am 41 and I live in Brazil.I love History, Geography and Archaeology since I was around 12 years old. At school, the kids used to say that I should be a History professor. Well, I have not became a professor (yet – who knows?!).
My graduation was in International Relations and I have a Master in Public Policy in South Korea (very far from my country). I work for the federal government at the Minister of Finance.
I read ebooks and listen to audible books - while commuting. As I spend 2 hours every day, you can image how many books and great course classes I have heard in more than 4 years.
Currently, I am focusing my reading in 1) industrial revolution in England and the USA, and the biographies of the tycoons in the USA; 2) History of Communist and Socialism; and 3) the most difficult of all of them, the history of Fascism.
By the way, I would be glad to hear good references about the third group, Fascism - especially in Italy.

Hello, my name is JoAnn. For the last forty odd years I have been a resident of northern Virginia. Prior to that, I lived increments of time in a few other states and Europe as my father was military. I have traveled quite a bit in foreign countries and feel that has broadened the scope of my education in many forums. I love to travel. Through traveling, I have become a student of history, art, photography and writing. I love history actually. It is fulcrum to knowledge; to understand the whys of occurrences that change or alter the world or countriesIs paramount for individuals. Military men often love history but especially the history of war and my father was no exception. We lived 4 years in Verdun. So I have keen understanding of some elements of that war and that place that most don’t have. It is parcel of who I am. My mother was German so there is another perspective I am shadowed by. I majored in English and taught high school for number of years yet history fascinated me. Thank you.

Apart from reading, obviously, I enjoy gardening and spend a lot of time walking and trying to train my dog.
