Hello, I'm a new member. My name is Angela and I'm from California. I love books and have always been a voracious reader. I read so fast that I ran out of books and began reading my mother's. When I was about ten years old, I found a book about Gloria Vanderbilt, and fell in love with the 1920's. From there I became interested in WWI and II. Today I find almost any topic of history fascinating.I have a wide variety of interests, but history will always have a special place in my heart.

In the past year I have read about Cinesse history trough Lisa See's novels and I'm passionate about Japan. Movies are a second favourite (korean dramas and other historical movies). My dearest love is Ancient History, especially the Greeks. The Persian War period was my favourite topic to teach.
I have a general interest in military history (I'm a boardgaming geek). And I am also partial to alternative history (but not alternative facts!).
What I like best when looking at the past is recognising the common humanity we share.

My name is Sherri , I live in Rhode Island (US). I have always loved history, I think it comes from my grandfather who shared stories of our family history. Since moving from the Midwest I realized that I had just the basic history of early America. I was surrounded by history but knew very little of it. The past few years I have delved into the Gilded Age, The Revolutionary War, and the Founding Fathers.
Hi everyone, I'm Tee. I love history, primarily thanks to my Dad, who as long as I can remember took us on trips to historical sites and museums. My personal interests tend to lean towards domestic history and individuals. Lately I've read about Cowgirls and am currently reading about Abigail Adams. The confessions of Aquinas are next on the list. As I've gotten older I have read more military and ancient histories. I guess I don't have a single fixed preference, so much as a curiosity with an inability to stay focused most of the time with the odd hyper focus here and there. Knowing what has gone on behind us is key I think to knowing how to deal with what is ahead of us.
I wanted to introduce myself, I'm David, my M.A. is in history from Temple University. My primary fields of study are World War II and Post War, including the interwar years, the Civil War, and the Colonial Era, Revolutionary Period and Early U.S. History. Currently reading Chernow's book on Grant and recently finished bio's on Herbert Hoover, Calvin Coolidge, Douglas MaCarthur: American Warrior, Chernow's book on Washington, Masters and Commanders, American Warlords and Lincoln's Lieutenants.

I'm currently a grad student on my way to becoming a history teacher. Most of my experience is in American and European history, and I can never decide whether to dive into those topics more in depth or broaden my reading list. I was born in and live near Chicago, and I've worked as a teacher in Shanghai and Madrid. I'm also very interested in the history of pop culture - how artists have influenced their societies and vice versa. I studied film production in college and I enjoy documentaries and learning about the history of Hollywood and European productions.

Hello,I'm a huge Military History fan, particularly the Civil War. I've also read about many other American conflicts, recently delving into the Global War on Terror.
I'm also a big fan of Jeff Shaara and what he's doing writing novels on every American Military Conflict.
I usually read about 20 books a year, give or take.
So many books, so little time.
I love holding printed books in my hand, but I'm trying to bring myself to read more on my Kindle. The most difficult part is many of the Civil War books I want to read aren't available in digital.
I'm also a technical guy that works on Computers, but there is something about holding a book and turning the pages...

Howdy, I have been a professional horseman, for 50 years. Yet, I can't help but wonder what it would have been like to be a history teacher. It's too late for me to make changes, but I enjoy teaching people about history. I practice on my customers; sadly, horse people are known for avoiding history as if it was the flu. I take unfair advantage; since, I often have customers captive for hours, much like a teacher has students captive. With one minor difference, my customers can walk away if they become bored.
Some of them say they enjoy learning the history lessons and others are happy to remain ignorant. The goal is to awaken the spark of learning and get the customer to buy a book or research the subject on the internet. To keep my lectures interesting, I read continuously, and that is primarily why I am here.
The authors and teachers who bring history to life are heroes in my opinion. The history teachers who have failed to bring history alive for millions have wasted a wonderful opportunity.
The history of equine cultures and of the wooden ships that sailed the oceans fascinate me, but almost any history or prehistory can hold my interest.

Hello all,I am Rohit, from Mumbai, India. I work as a VFX artist in a studio over here. My interests include watching films, playing PC games and reading books.
My relationship with history didn't start quite well. We got history subject in the 3rd grade and I straight away hated it. The answers were long and difficult and I always wondered "why should I learn about the past? whats the use?". I guess it was natural for 9 year old me to think like that.
Fast forward to 2012, I was 20 and was watching Hollywood films every week. Films based on world war 2 fascinated me. Soon I got interested in knowing more about WW2. I read Anne Frank's diary which made a deep impression on me. I plan on reading 'WW2 in photographs' by Richard Holmes to know more about the war.

But whats the use of reading world history if you don't know about your own country? Its embarrassing to confess that I do not have proper systematic knowledge about the history of India. My country with 80% Hindu population was ruled for thousands of years by Muslim invaders who suppressed locals and subjected them to slavery, bigotry, injustice and even torture, and then for 200 years by British rulers from England who were almost the same. It's important to know about these in detail because "If you don't know where you came from, how would you know where you are going?"
That's why I recently read a book "300 Brave Men" about a 17th century Hindu king 'Shivaji' who at the age of 16 said “I shall not serve, and neither shall my people!” after witnessing villages and crops being repeatedly razed by the invading foreign armies, men killed in both peacetime and war, their women abducted & raped and temples destroyed. He used guerilla tactics to defeat enemies many times stronger and more in number. He won his first fort at the age of 16 with just 1000 men and when he died at 50, he had over 300 forts and 100,000 warriors with him.
