I have a wide range of interests. I will try to be more specific when it comes to history, just to narrow down things a little, but really I am interested generally in any book that covers the precursors to the last two generations, no matter how far back it goes.In addition I am interested in the following areas, which is relevant here when books relate to those areas from a historical perspective: physics, chemistry, mathematics, microbiogy (especially microbial ecology), ecology, paleontology, poetry, literature (mostly classical), and botany.
As far as history is concerned, I read extensively in English History, including that of Ireland, Wales, and Scotland; Ancient History (any area), Middle Eastern History (any area), European history from the fall of Rome onwards, Russian History, Japanese History from the later 18th century to about 1960, South and Central American History, World War I (any theater), World War II (ditto), Korean War, North America to about 1650, United States History from first settlement to Nixon, British Colonial History, and history dealing with nomadic migrations from the Scythians to (and this point is not strictly a migration) the fall of Constantinople. This area would include the Germanic and North European (area of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland) migrations. Biographies of notable individuals in any of my areas of interest are included as well.
I will post relevant books when I get involved in a particular reading program.

Greetings-My name is Sharon. I reside in the United States. I have always enjoyed reading history narratives. In the past I've focused on WWII. But in the last couple of years I have been systematically working my way through a chronological study of history via literature and primary sources. I started with the Ancients. I am currently in Rome B.C. My favorite historian thus far is Xenophon; my favorite topic Cyrus the Great. My daughter, whom I am homeschooling, is reading along with me. Or perhaps I should say, I am reading along with her! It is her deadline that keeps me on task. I am glad to have stumbled upon this group.

I'm always starting a new book and my favorite genre to read is historical nonfiction, most often reading about US History, Civil War to World War II specifically. I always love reading more on the topic, but would also love to expand my horizons a bit, whether at a different point in history or different part of the world, or both!

Hi All! Decided to join this group as soon as I saw how many books I have read or am planning to read are being discussed (in great detail!) in the group, especially The Raj Quartet. I have just finished reading God's War: A New History of the Crusades and have just started The Battle for Spain: The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939. I do have a blog where I review books I read (out of deference to the guidelines I won't share a link). The only history books I have reviewed there thus far though are In Search of Zarathustra: Across Iran and Central Asia to Find the World's First Prophet and Civilization: The West and the Rest. Neither of which I particularly liked!

Hi, I'm Sheila. I live in Brooklyn. Some of my favourite books are King Leopold's Ghost, Team of Rivals and Garden of Beasts. I also love natural history and reading old travel books, which are like history in the making; writers such as Fanny Trollope, Tobias Smollett, Kinglake et al. I have a soft spot for Empire books, British or Roman. For me, it's all about the talent of the writer. A brilliant writer can make a mundane day in 1251 seem fascinating whereas an earnest but untalented writer can make the Napoleonic Wars sound duller than a stint as a temporary worker in an Amazon warehouse. I'm happy to join this group.
