Hello, I am Tristan. I am new to this club and to Goodreads in general. I am from the united States. I am interested in science fiction (Star Trek), history, some historical fiction.

I enjoy reading about WW2, the American Civil War, and am looking into reading some books about the Lewis and Clark expedition and Ancient Rome (If you guys have any suggestions).

I am about to read Killing Lincoln by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard and after this book a few Star Trek Books before I read another history genre books.

My name is Tommy and I live in Virginia. Once upon a time I only read history books. That was the only thing on my class syllabi. Over the past several years I have diversified my reading list but I always come back to history. It is my love. I enjoy colonial history, military history, and regional history specific to Virginia, Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay. I also try to keep up with historiography and books that discuss history as a craft.

I also enjoy classic literature, modern classics, and adventure stories (both true and fiction). When I am not at work I enjoy hiking, the beach, and anything that takes me outside.

I did a much better job of tracking my reading the past 4 years and am glad I did, it makes a big difference. I'm so glad to have found dozens of others who love history as much as I do and I look forward to fellow recommendations. I love learning anything about the past but I'm particularly interested in royal history (England, France, etc), ancient Rome-Greece-Egypt, imperial Russia, the Italian Renaissance, there are too many topics for me to list! I love all history really, there's so much to learn. I would like to learn more about the Early Middle Ages so if anyone knows a good book for that time, I will appreciate your recommendation! I also write books on American history. I've written an account of the early New Deal, a history of eBay, and a biography of Mayor Daley -- and I'm finishing up a book now on the Supreme Court and eugenics.

Hello. My name is Rich and I have a rather eclectic taste in books. History is one of the things I enjoy reading most when it comes to non-fiction reading. I have done an immense amount of reading on the lead-up to and the time of WWII. Most of what I have read has had to do with the European theater, but I've done a lot of reading about the Pacific war, too, especially about the submarine war there.
I once met someone who was taking a course on WWII at the University of Illinois at Chicago and we got to compare notes on what was required and optional reading for his course. I'd already read most of his required reading and much of his optional reading, all on my own.
I live in the Charleston SC area and have been here for 13 years. I lived in the Chicago area before that for over 26 years. I do not miss the winters in Chicago but I miss the public transit they had there. I used to get so much reading done while riding the EL and buses there. It was wonderful!
I've had a chance to visit some of the historic places and some of the historic documents here in the US. It's interesting to actually see where these events took place and see the documents that separated us from England and which established the government we live under. History is so important in understanding our present.

I proabably won't be into most of the group reads because my history nonfiction list is mainly books on the last Russian imperial family and their relatives. I am always looking for a good historical fiction book but historical inaccuracies and extreme instances of romanticization drive me nuts.
My favorite history nonfiction books are The Romanov Sisters: The Lost Lives of the Daughters of Nicholas and Alexandra by Helen Rappaport and and by Elena Gorokhova

Hello everyone,
My name is Steve and I live in the city of San Diego located in the United States not far from the border with Mexico. I'm in my sixties and enjoy riding my bicycle in our mostly temperate weather. I speak Spanish and am interested in learning about the history of Central and South America although I'm only a beginner in that area. One of my strongest interests has been the history of the American civil rights movement and non-violent, peace leadership more generally. Currently I'm reading Lost Prophet: The Life and Times of Bayard Rustin, a forgotten hero of the civil rights movement. John Lewis's civil rights memoir Walking with the Wind is also a favorite of mine. I'm also interested in the opposite side of history, especially Nazi leadership having read Ian Kershaw's two volume biography of Hitler, and biographies of Goebbels and Göring. Next I plan to read a biography of Albert Speer. I seem to be attracted to understanding the best and worst that humanity produces. I look forward to learning more and connecting with people through this club. I only joined Goodreads today.
