Anne Kunzen | 9 comments I have read the first Warriors book, "Into the Wild". I actually liked it a lot more than this cat mystery. Maybe because real cats are doing(mostly)realistic cat things? Yes, it is "fantasy" in that the reader can understand the cats' dialogue, but they are not speaking aloud as humans. :-) House cat, Rusty, abandons the safety and comfort of his home for a chance at an adventure-filled life with a local band of feral cats. This well-written story reads like a "Watership Down" with cats, with the same kind of traditional tales and lore of cat-ancestors, adventures amongst humans and other creatures, quests, good versus evil cats, etc. The series goes on and on, and has lots of adventure and action. I would recommend this for boys or girls ready for a 4th grade reading level. (Plus: There are more Erin Hunter series featuring Bears and Dogs.)
