Struggling to remember the beginning

Hello. I read Leviathan Wakes a month or two ago, went straight to Caliban's War afterwards, but unfortunately my bag was stolen whilst on holiday and Caliban's War went with it. Long story short, I got it back a few weeks later but I'm a little bit out of practice. I've nearly finished Caliban's War now...but something keeps bugging me which I can't remember.

At the start of LW, Mao is onboard a ship with the OPA (?) and that ship gets hijacked by some Protagen no do-gooders, who leave a Martian beacon on the stricken vessel to make it look like it was Mars - thereby starting a war to allow them to used the protomolecule with ease bla bla bla.

Is this correct? Also, why is the protomolecule loose on the ship? Did they let it loose on purpose as an experiment or was it an accident?

A quick synopsis on these events would be awesome. Thanks!

EDIT: I've just found the Expanse wiki. Awesome! Still, a simple quick run through here from someone wouldn't go amiss.

Mao was taken on to the Anubis? The Scopuli was left with no one on it?

I read this years ago and it was (unfortunately) deleted from my Nook, but thanks for the thread, it really piqued my interest again!

I'm not entirely sure actually. I understaood it as an experiment gone wild. That would explain why the shielding had been removed from the reactor at least.
