message 52: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Can I get you something to eat?" she asked as she took their cups to the sink and started to wash them.

message 53: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "What do you have?" Ryan said excitedly. He hadn't had a home cooked meals in ages.

message 54: by Rinji (new)

Rinji After the cups were clean, she walked to her fridge. "I was going to make stew for dinner." she said turning to him. She glanced at the time and smiled again. "In fact, I should start dinner soon."

message 55: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "Mind if I help?" Ryan said. He promised to make things easier for her. It was for the best because he didn't like to have idle hands.

message 56: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "If you would like. There are some potatoes and carrots over there in a wire basket. Would you wash them and chop them up?" she asked as she pulled out some meat and grabbed up a knife. She started to chop the meat into pieces.

message 57: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan nodded. He took the bowl of peeled potatoes and ran the potatoes through the water. He quickly and skillfully chopped the potatoes and then did the same thing with the carrots. He was used to moving quickly. chopping food was really easy for him.

"What do I do next?" he asked as he dumped the water from the taters and carrots down the sink.

message 58: by Rinji (new)

Rinji She smiled as she watched how quick he was at chopping up the potatoes and carrots. "There is a big pot in the cabinet next to the stove. Would you fill it with water for me? You can then put the potatoes and carrots in the water and start it boiling please." she said as she started to cook the meat a bit in a skillet. Her husband had never helped her cook dinner.

message 59: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan had desires to go to culinary school before the war. Oddly enough, the war allowed him the opportunity to better wield a knife, in and out of the kitchen.

message 60: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments He filled the big pit he had gotten from the cabinet up with water, put the potatoes and carrots in the pot, and carried the full pot over to Lisa and the stove. He turned the stove on and let the pot get heated.

message 61: by Rinji (new)

Rinji She smiled at him as she finished cooking up the meat enough that it would not take long to cook with everything else. She put the meat in the pot and added some other ingredients and seasonings to the pot then covered it. "That should only take about a half hour to cook." she said and turned to him. "Why don't I show you to the room that I mentioned?"

message 62: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan nodded. "That would be nice to do."

message 63: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Follow me." she said and walked towards a hall. She stopped at a closet and grabbed out some sheets, pillow cases, and a blanket before leading him to the room. Opening the door she walked inside. "This is it. It might not be much but it is what we have." She set the things down in a chair and then started to make the bed for him.

message 64: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "It's wonderful. It isn't a cot so it's automatically in my favorite bedrooms list." Ryan said.

message 65: by Rinji (last edited Mar 26, 2014 07:22PM) (new)

Rinji She chuckled softly. "Would you mind putting the pillow cases on the pillows for me?" she asked as she started on the top sheet. "And I am glad you think so. I mean it is all I can offer."

message 66: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan started putting the pillows into their pillow cases. "I wish I had anything good to give you."

message 67: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "What do you mean?" she asked and finished the bed with the blanket she had grabbed.

message 68: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "I only had bad news for you. I should have gotten something that he said you liked.

message 69: by Rinji (new)

Rinji She paused and looked to him. "Don't worry about it. Really." she said softly. "Did he really talk about me that much?"

message 70: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "Pretty much everyday."

message 71: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "I never knew he cared that much." she said softly as she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "I am sure he told you that I did not love him. That isn't exactly true. I loved him like a friend loves another friend. But I did not love him like a wife should love her husband."

message 72: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "If I can ask, Why did you marry him if you didn't love him like a husband." Ryan said with a sigh.

message 73: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Because of my father." she said and took a deep breath. "My father and his father were close and I was betrothed to him when I was young. My father never gave me much of a choice."

message 74: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "That is really traditional" Ryan said without a filter of his belief that arranged marriage was stupid and outdated.

message 75: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "That is my father." she said. "No matter what I said, I couldn't get him to change his mind. I actually did not meet Charlie until the day I married him."

message 76: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "So you never got to date?" Ryan asked.

message 77: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "No, I didn't." she said softly. She started to walk toward the door. "He did not even let me have friends that were guys."

message 78: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "Wow. Do you have anything strong than tea to drink?" Ryan asked.

message 79: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Yes. I have a bottle of wine." she said looking at him. "Why?"

message 80: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "We need it."

message 81: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "I won't drink until my son is in bed." she said looking to him. "I should check the stew to make sure nothing is sticking." She left the room and walked to the kitchen to stir the stew.

message 82: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "Of course." Ryan said. He sat on the bed of the room. What was he thinking about drinking.

message 83: by Rinji (new)

Rinji No matter what happened, her son came first. He always would. She stirred the stew and deemed that it was read. She set the table for three.
"Dinner is ready." she called. "Scott, don't forget to wash your hands please."
"Okay, mommy." Scott called and hurried to wash his hands.

message 84: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan didn't know what to talk about with her. He arrive to the table a few minutes after Scott had finished washing up.

message 85: by Rinji (new)

Rinji Lisa put stew before them before grabbing a bowl herself. Fresh bread had been sliced and added to the table along with bread and home made jam. A glass of milk sat before Scott.
"What would you like to drink, Ryan?" she asked curiously as she got herself a glass of water.

message 86: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "Do u have lemonade"

message 87: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Sure." she said and got them both a glass of lemonade. She returned to the table and placed it in front of him before sitting down.

message 88: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan took a deep breath and began enjoy the stew. He could not hide his pleasure in the food's taste and moaned. "This is delicious, Lisa."

message 89: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Most of the herbs were grown in my garden outside." she said pleased that he was enjoying it. As he ate, Scott stared at Ryan curiously. "Stop staring and eat your dinner, Scott." she said.
"Mommy, when is Daddy coming home?" he asked again.
Lisa looked to him and sighed. "Finish your dinner then we will talk about it okay." she promised.
"Okay." he said and went back to eating.

message 90: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan continued to eat the stew. "So you like to garden?" He felt a little guilty when he looked at Scott, the spitting image of his father.

message 91: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "It helps supplement our table. We don't have a lot of money for groceries, so I grow what I can so that there is less to buy." she replied as she ate.

message 92: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "Aren't some the seeds for these ingredients more expensive and risky than buying at your nearest grocery store.

message 93: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Some, but I have always been able to grow anything. And I only have to buy the seeds once most of the time." she said smiling. "They produce their own seeds and I keep what I can when I harvest."

message 94: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan nodded his head. He enjoyed his stew. When they had finished their meal, Ryan excused himself to the bathroom, forgetting that he didn't know where it was.

Scott and Lisa were now alone at the table. It was an ideal time for Scott to ask about his father or for Lisa to discuss another private matter to Scott.

message 95: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Come here, Scott, we have to talk." she said softly and held her hands to him. He got up and walked over to her before climbing onto her lap. "Your dad is not going to be coming home, sweetheart." She said softly. "He died saving Ryan's life."

"No, I won't believe it!" he said loudly and climbed off her lap as tears filled his eyes. "You lie!"

"Scott." she said and reached for him.

He slapped at her hands then ran to his room yelling that he hated her.

message 96: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Ryan nearly collided with Scott on the way back in." He could hear the crying as Scott passed. "You told him." Ryan said bluntly as he walked back to the table.

message 97: by Rinji (new)

Rinji "Yes, he had to know sooner or later." she said softly and sighed. "I know he wouldn't stop asking until I told him the truth. Though he doesn't believe me." She stood from the table and picked up the dishes. She brought them to the sink and started to fill it with water so she could wash them. As the sink filled she transferred the rest of the stew to a smaller container and placed it in the fridge.

message 98: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "He may just need time. He just learned that he will never see a man he's been wanting to meet his whole life. I wish it wasn't this way so badly." Ryan said, clenching his fist with anger and with his tears falling.

message 99: by Rinji (new)

Rinji She took a deep breath and nodded. "I know, still I hate seeing him upset." she said softly and washed the dishes needing something to do. Once the dishes were done, which did not take long, she turned to him. "How about a glass of wine?"

message 100: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "That would be nice."
