Siocan I somehow get the feeling that everyone thinks that this series will end after three books, but has there ever been an announcement regarding that?

Drew Yes it has been confirmed to be a trilogy. That's why Kvothe states in Name of the Wind that it will take him 3 days to tell his story with each book being one of those days.

Sparrowlicious Are you sure, Drew?
Just because Kvothe says it will take him 3 days, doesn't mean it's confirmed unless Pat says it will be 3 books. :') Just think about it: outside of Kvothe's storytelling there's other stuff going on. This might be resolved in book 3 but maybe not (unless Pat confirms it, really).

Meran There's speculation that other books will follow, working on all the tangled, leftover threads ;)

At this rate, I'm not sure it'll be entirely done in my lifetime, at say, 7 years between books. (I'm going to be 61 in May :/ )

Drew Yes it has been confirmed to be a trilogy. Just because there is a possibility of other books taking place in the world doesn't mean that the series is longer. Just like Ryiria. Technically, Ryiria Chronicles and Ryiria Revelations are the same characters but they are separate series. He may write more about Kvothe and may even write about events that take place from the Inn after he finishes his story but Kingkiller Chronicles has been confirmed by Pat to be a trilogy.

Meran I said what I did to show that the sweetness of Rothfuss' world wouldn't necessarily be over, with a third book ;)

M I talked to Rothfuss years ago and he said that it was meant to be a trilogy, but then, things change.

Benjamin yep pretty sure it's a trilogy but i'm also sure there will be more books about kvothe after this series is done j'm sure Patrick will meet the demand of his fan s and we're sure to want more then just one more book I know I do

Rob Gregory I'm thinking that it is actually a trilogy of two books and a ghost book that will never be published.

Meran LOL

Drew +1 to Rob. I think the 3rd book is a myth to get folks to continue checking his blog and keep donating money to Worldbuilders. (that's not a bad thing though) All kidding aside, I don't mind him taking his time with the book. It'll be worth it when it is released and I can't exactly blame him for having a life.

Rob Gregory Well, three years to publish a book he said was already written is a bit silly. I'm all for him having a life but, seriously, did he have to go out and grow the trees to make the paper for the first edition or something? C'mon. Either he dramatically overstated the status of the third book to keep people interested, he is having trouble letting go of his baby, or he doesn't really care about his fans.

Marc Jones According to a blog post some months back hes been working on a bunch of novellas set in the same world and featuring existing characters.
Personally I have no problem with him having a life and taking a break but It would be nice if he could finish the third book before starting spin off works.
