I'm currently reading Orfeo by Richard Powers. The subjects that are explored in the book are complicated (classical music and chemistry), but the writing is excellent and makes these topics much more accessible than they'd normally be, especially to a non-musical, non-scientific reader like me!

I'm reading Road to Reckoning: A Novel by Robert Lautner. It reminds me of True Grit by Charles Portis. The language is spare and the dialogue sounds completely authentic.
