It’s time to begin discussing The Pirate’s Wish! As always, feel free to continue your discussion of The Assassin’s Curse. TAC spoilers are welcome in these threads, but do post any spoilers to The Pirate’s Wish in the TPW spoiler thread.

Your recap:

Chapter 1: Naji and Ananna are still trapped on the Isles of the Sky. When Ananna visits the Wizard Eirnin to see about acquiring some supplies, she finds only his ghost. A few days later, the mystery of Erinin’s death is revealed with Ananna meets a manticore in the woods.

Chapter 2: The manticore is now living alongside Ananna, as Ananna has made a deal with her to help her off the island. Naji is not happy about this development, as the only thing keeping the manticore from eating him is the fact that he’s cursed.

Chapter 3: Ananna works up the nerve to kiss Naji, and although he attacks her for it (thinking he himself was under attack), it does work, thus proving to Naji that the tasks are not wholly impossible. Naji doesn’t react to the revelation that Ananna loves him very well, unfortunately. Echo tries to take advantage of Ananna’s heartbroken state, but it doesn’t work.

As always, discussion is open for these chapters. What were your favorite parts? Least favorite parts? What do you think of the manticore? How about Echo—it looks like she’s back for good. Do you think Naji is ever going to accept that someone can love him?

Monicha (monicha_stark) | 28 comments So I totally read this book within the weekend, so now the beginning is all a blur.

Mostly what I remember of the first 3 chapters is that I find Ananna really annoying. Not sure what it is or why.. but I think it's mostly that she just doesn't listen to Naji when he tells her to stay put and she gets herself into trouble.

Meeting the manticore was very different! Wasn't expecting anything like that. Then again.. it is the Isles of the Sky. I defiantly felt that I could trust the manticore, until Naji had a little fit about it.. then I wasn't so sure. Though she started to help them out to get food, on the promise of getting of the island and wasn't interested in eating either of them. So I am all about the manticore, I really think she will be great help for Ananna and Naji.

I liked how Ananna kind of has a friend, in some way, that isn't Naji. Though really hated it when the manticore convinced Ananna to kiss Naji... I was very heart broken about how Naji and Ananna reacted. Then Echo showed up and my heart was just pounding. I'm super worried about Echo, now that Ananna's charm is weakened from her hurt, being able to use Ananna to get to Naji.

All I hope for is that they get off the island and that Ananna can get through the hurt, get rid of the curse and be free. Now that Naji knows that she loves him, its just hard to be around him. Though, like I said in the beginning, I find Ananna really annoying. She lost her tough girl because of Naji and the island. She is worn out, but something is there that really gets to me. Not sure really how to explain it.

Anyways, it was a good start to the book. Awesome imagination with the manticore and Eirnin's ghost. Never would have thought of anything like that.

Tanisha M | 2 comments I had all the time in the world and suddenly when this reread started everything piled out of nowhere. I just got some free time and hope to post more this week!

I think of the two books that Pirate's Wish is my favorite. I was lucky enough that when I finished Assassin's Curse for the first time that Pirate's Wish had just come out so I was able to jump right into it all. I'm still refreshing my brain on the beginning of this book but I do remember being most excited and surprised about the manticore.

I definitely enjoyed her as a character and she is one of my favorites because she is completely unexpected and I love her personality. My favorite part is the manticore’s constant demands to be groomed and her trumpeting equivalents of purrs while being groomed. She reminds me of my cat who is whole heartedly independent but at the end of the day ends up in my lap for a good rub.

I also like that Ananna doesn’t instantly revere to the manticore even when cautiously aware of the potential danger the manticore presents she still banters and debates with her like anyone else. I have to reread these chapters again as I am trying to be super cautious of spoilers.
