Well, the problem with both is that traditionally, neither eats food. I'd probably go crazy if I couldn't eat anymore, so ghost is the safer answer.

Come on guys, don't let me be the only vampires. ;)
Well, to be fair, I already burn to a crisp, require sunglasses even on cloudy days, and have really sharp teeth for a vegetarian, so I figured I'd try something different. ;p

Not all humans eat blood, cooked or otherwise. ;)

In the show Supernatural, they kill ghosts all the time. :P

I think you may have an idea for a whole new genre right there. :-)

It would take some serious thought and time. :)
Hmm... Well many vampire legends say they are soulless dead and many people believe ghosts to be the souls of the dead... So... What about a story of a vampire who is haunted by their own soul?

But if I had to choose, I think I would opt for being a ghost. Mostly because a ghost has the potential to transcend that state and evolve upward into a higher plane, and move onward.
A vampire, theoretically is in a sort of final-state, unless and until it is vanquished... I'm not entirely sure what happens to a vampire after that... but living fully in the moment, knowing the end/afterward is going to suck....
I suppose it boils down to the live now/ get it now... approach.. versus... what might be coming down the line, and looking ahead.. approaches...
that and.. ghosts don't have so many things they need to fear in every moment of their existence... whereas vampires-- as terrifying as they are... have real fears/ constraints on their daily living...
not sure I'd go for the living in fear aspect:)

that could make an amazing character study.. much the way frankenstein does... creator running away from his own creation, etc etc...
would the vampire know the ghost was its own soul? and- what happens ultimately, if-when the two merge...?

Interestingly, I read a short story called We Fear The Living in which the main characters are ghosts who are going about their ghostly existence and the only thing they fear is, well as the title states, the living, who are capable of committing all kinds of atrocities and do exactly that.

interesting- you know.. most ghost stories are written from the perspective of the living... and generally, only comically, from the perspective of the ghost...
I suppose ghosts would find much of our existence cringe-worthy... being the embodiment, or lack thereof, of experience..
and yes, understanding that ghosts, generally are caught between, either by unfulfilled karma, someone here holding them, or the simple fact that they don't realise they are dead... can't find the light, so to speak..
i suppose a very interesting and entertaining story could be written re a ghost who is trying to teach a psychic or medium...(someone with potential, but unknown prior to story)... the real-deal...as opposed to the television-version:)

But as a ghost, you're stuck there until you can move on, and what will let you move on isn't necessarily within your power to do.
Still, even if I did shine like a diamond, it would be pretty bad ass to be faster and stronger than anything around. So vampire it is!

That could be interesting. Are you thinking of a permanently free short story collection then?

I can't think of any pros for being a ghost.

What about walking through walls and spying on people? I'm not afraid to admit I would totally do that!

If there is a deadline involved I'm not sure it work. Statistically I don't do well with them. :)

I completely agree with this.

Yep. I would enjoy that one too. I couldn't help but be nosy if I had that ability.

oh that would so totally be me... i'd probably burst for wanting to tell someone all the juicy things I discovered, too...
worse, i'd probably find my way into some secret archives, and spend my time trying to psychicially trying to get someone to open books lol:)

No wonder a lot of stories about those places usually have stories about huantings. Its all those nosy ghosts.

1. Vampires can interact with people and hide their abnormality.
2. If unending life becomes too much you can just step into the sun or fall on a tent stake.
3. I don't want to make pottery with my living wife with the help of Whoopi Goldberg.

I prefer to be a vampire undead and well you get to touch things and well ghosts are well just dull lol
