Winifred Amelia Mallinson

I woke up to the sound of music blaring through my clunky headphones, my face laying on top of an open book on my desk. It seemed I had fallen asleep studying again. With a yan, I pulled myself up and glanced over at the clock. It seemed I had thirty minutes to get to work....Shit.
Tripping over only a few things, I scurried through my apartment, changing into my scrubs and throwing my hair into a ponytail. I then rushed outside, hoping I was able to catch a shuttle bus. I was lucky today, it appeared. The bus was right at the stop and I offered the driver a relieved smile as I gave him my fair. The ride, of course, was quiet. But that was okay. I preferred to be alone with my thoughts, staring out a glass window that....really needed to be cleaned.
It was the kind of day I liked, where the sky stayed gray. Maybe it was poetic or some shit like that. But, sue me, I liked when the sun didn't try to blind me. I slid my headphones on during the ride, turning on Silent Circus, my favorite band. Yes, it was technically screamo and I didn't seem like the type to listen to that. But...I liked to feel things, anything. I really felt things with their music.
Plus, it was a big change from the Mozart I usually listened to, and that was nice.
When I made it to the hospital, I was immediately met by my friend Charlotte. We were total opposites, really, and she wasn't the type of person I would normally hang out with. Charlotte was probably apretty popular girl in high school, a cheer leader no doubt, and she had bouncy blonde curls and soft green eyes. She was petite looking and I was a whole head taller than her. But Charlotte was extremely sweet.
She started to blab about her date with Gareth last night and how she was going to go out with him again tomorrow and how he was the reincarnation of Jesus. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little...
That was when my the paiger at my waist went off. I jumped a little, not expecting the noise. Did I have an assignment today? Well,
apparently I did. I hurried to the front room, greeted by a glare from my boss. I gave her an awkward little wave and a nervous smile. She didn't like me too much and didn't try to be all secret about it.
"Finally, Mallinson. Your charge today will be that man over there." She gestured to a guy sitting down looking at his phone.
I almost choked.
Oh my god....was that really...? Of course it was! I'd recognize him anywhere! I took a deep breath, managing to keep my composure before taking a stride towards him. "Hello, I'm Winnie. Guess I'm your guide today."
