He took a few steps away from her. "I don't mean to hurt you, but it keeps happening. Maybe... maybe I should leave. Me being with you doesn't help anything, and it's only made everything harder for both of us."

Once he was gone she couldn't breathe. She didn't understand this feeling, it wasn't how she'd felt with Ellis. So different yet oddly the same. Only she'd never had the chance to make up her own mind on this subject before. And now that she had: she wasn't sure she liked it much. She ran into the house, sitting just inside the door, head on her knees with her arms protectively around her head.
