Vidya (vidyasamson) | 82 comments I'm looking for paranormal romance or fantasy series or standalone novels where:

1. only one sex or one group of people in a land or a universe has paranormal powers. I'd like to read of the ramifications and fall out, how society reacts when one group has powers.

2. I'd also like to read of people who have the power to heal others. I don’t mean just the hero or heroine has this power. Are here any PNR or fantasy novels about a whole species or land or half a land of people who have this power and how others react to them?

Thanks for any recommendations. they can be either adult or YA. Thanks!

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments You might enjoy an old fantasy series by Andre Norton. It's a very long series that has sub-series within it since it ranges over at least half a world and various countries. The first several books, however, deal with a group of women who are born with power and rule their country and have to deal with neighboring countries, invasion, and war.

Another book by Andre Norton that meets your request is Storm Over Warlock is the first book in a 3 book series. Ignore what the description of this particular copy says, since it is not very accurate. (The 2 "survivors of the planet Warlock" were actually survivors of a survey group and NOT natives to the planet.) And yes, the natives of the planet have abilities defined by their sexes.

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) Oh, I have (a couple of times, I think!). She got me hooked on high fantasy and especially on those elves!!! I love those and the Bardic Voices stuff...why can't authors stay in their major series' forever? I haven't been too thrilled with her writing these last few years; I was so happy to finally get through the last Collegium Chronicles *wince* as I didn't think I'd even finish it :(

They change to suit their readers and what is selling now.A couple of my other favorites have went to adding more erotica in the stories,I like LOVE scenes just not inch by inch sex. I want 75/25 story line and romance.

Shereen Vedam | 35 comments I've got something that might suit you, Vidya, check out The Rue Alliance series...the description of the first book will give you an idea of the power in this group compared to normal humans - see the 3rd paragraph.

Also check out the reviews to give you more clarity about the plot, tone of the story, and romantic thread.

It's set in the Regency period.

And I agree with Carolyn, love the Anne McCaffrey's Pern series (that could called SF as much as Fantasy). Don't know the Valdemar one, but since Cindi loves it, will have to check it out.
