I love to read a wide range of fiction, everything from literary classics and avant-garde stuff in translation to mass market guilty pleasures ... in genre fiction I especially love historical fantasy and fairy tale and myth retellings, but I try to be basically a promiscuous reader of anything that sounds good. In nonfiction, I gravitate toward history, travel writing, memoirs, essays, pop psychology, and "society and culture" type books. In the guilt department, I wish I read more philosophy and politics and current events and pop science!When wearing my writer hat, I've focused almost exclusively the past 7-8 years or so on writing historical novels with magical realist elements, and I'm excited to be making my debut soon as "real" novelist with a book coming out from a small publisher in February 2020! I'm mostly going to be wearing my writer hat here, but I come prepared with my well-worn reader hat in hand too ...
