'The Bruce Partington Plans'--or, as others have said--very like an Agatha Christie narrative in its basic structure. 'The schemer falls into the pit he digs for another; violence recoileth upon the violent'.

The malefactor is slowly discovered by the sleuth..and a snare is laid using his own habits against him.

Why? Are there corollaries between a 'mole' story and a 'poisoner' story? If so, what might they be?

I think the corollary they share in common is the basic idea (hope?) that the wicked reap only wickedness; that good people directed towards justice prevail as a natural result of their dedication to justice & good.

It's actually a very old Biblical notion, that deceivers (moles & poisoners, for example) will reveal themselves because nothing good comes out of their deceptions; they grow nothing, and they produce nothing of value.
