Netting?

Jamie Dacyczyn So I'm about halfway through this book, and I've noticed 3-4 instances where a character has been "netting a sock" or wondered if they could "net" a fiber into a hat. Every instance sounds suspiciously like the author meant that they were KNITTING a sock...but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and Googled "how to net a sock"....nothing.

Am I missing something, or is this the biggest typo ever?

Merrie Haskell Hi! You are not the first to question this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%A5l... Needlebinding, also known as "knotless netting," was the netting in the book.

I chose it largely because I couldn't confirm that knitting existed in that time and place, but knotless netting has existed for quite some time.
