Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I'm working on finishing my first novel still. The genre is Urban Fantasy, although it's a bit on the dark side and involved superpowers instead of more commonly used paranormal themes. I'm calling it Hielo right now. :)

Inda, how are your three WIPs going? I'm sorry I've been so inactive that I've only now replied to your post! Those all sound so interesting, I hope they are going/have gone well!

Roxanne, I love urban fantasy, though I've only ever read it at the adult level rather than young adult. That sounds like a very interesting title, how did you come up with it? Sounds intriguing, feel free to tell us more about it!

Thanks! I'm glad to hear you're interested in it. ^w^

Unfortunately, I've decided that I'm going to be focusing on another project first. Hielo was meant to be part of a series right from the start, but I feel like I need to work on a single novel first.

The title I have now was one that I came up with pretty recently, even though my original idea for the novel is almost 8 years old. The title used to be Reflection, because the it was originally a Sci-Fi story about a girl and her clone. When I changed the basic story to no longer be science-based, I realized that I had to change the title as well.

The main character in this novel is of Spanish heritage, and uses an ice-based superpower. Therefore, Hielo: the spanish word for ice. ^w^

Inda (indaherwood) | 19 comments I think that's a great title @Roxanne! Love the double meaning in it.

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) Thanks! :)

Inda (indaherwood) | 19 comments I'm now working on a YA romance at the moment centered in NYC. The two main characters have personalities far different than anything I've ever written before. It's a fun challenge.

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) What are their personalities like?

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) Wow, they sound like great characters! Really interesting! ^w^ Have you started posting excerpts on Goodreads or anything? I'd love to read this. :)

message 63: by Inda (new)

Inda (indaherwood) | 19 comments Thanks! And no I haven't. I'm going to be publishing it and I'm afraid I'd give too much away lol. I tend to do that ;) when I'm about to release it I'll probably put the first two chapters on my blog as a kind of sneak preview.

message 64: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) Cool, I'll look forward to that then. And of course I'll buy the book as well. :)

Inda (indaherwood) | 19 comments Haha I'll let you know when it comes out!

So how are everyone's novels going? ^.^ Anyone participating in NaNoWriMo this year?

message 68: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Frankel | 26 comments I haven't written in 4 months! I'll pick it up again in December, when I have a break. How sad. Hope everyone else is doing better than that!

That's too bad Lisa, but you will have time again! Stressing over whether or not you're writing when you don't have time won't be helpful, just focus on whatever you need to, and you will be able to write again soon!

That's great Janelle! What project are you working on?

message 72: by Janelle (new)

Janelle Fila (janellefila) A middle grade mystery, so I'm over 1/4 through. This is a rewrite, so I'm pretty excited to get back into it. It's coming along well and I'm pleased with the story's progression. How about yourself?

That's great! It sounds very interesting :) Are you aiming for a full 50 000 words or do you think it will be slightly shorter?

I'm working on a new adult/adult sci-fi space opera, I'm only about 5000 words into it because November is seriously my second busiest month of the year (after January exam period). My target right now is simply 20 000 words rather than 50 000, and I'm hoping to make it. Midterms should be done after this week, I hope! I do have basically all of the scenes for the first half of the novel mapped out, and most of the second half I've got charted out as well I just don't have actual descriptions for each one. I'm very happy with what I have so far though, and the direction it's going :)

Loury Trader | 10 comments I wanted to take advantage of NaNoWriMo. I had a goal of writing at least four new chapters; however, with the demands of two little boys, and the beginning of cold/flu season; I've only been lucky enough to add 100 words to my novel. At this rate, I hope I can finish it before years end.

That's the beauty of NaNo, just to start and get whatever you can! I think they picked Nov because it is seriously the busiest time of the year! Good luck!

I know exactly what you mean! I've been sick almost the entire month so far and while I don't have two little boys demanding my attention, I have four very demanding courses/teachers who are giving out midterms right now! Do what you can Loury, and set whatever goal you feel fits your agenda, and just do what you can without causing yourself stress. Writing, and NaNo, should be a fun experience, not something that causes us stress! Just do it when you have fun and you will get there! :) The same goes to all of you who may be reading this comment as well!

message 78: by Janelle (new)

Janelle Fila (janellefila) I absolutely agree! NaNo is about setting writing goals and sticking to them, whether it's 500 words a day or 1/2 a hour of writing before you go to bed. The only pressure you should feel is the pressure you put on yourself to write more each day. Get up 1/2 hour early, stay up late forty-five minutes, give up an hour of wasteful TV (but not your favorites, those are inspiration!) Sneak it in on your lunch break, in between meetings, before dinner but after your homework. Whatever you can to make sure you write...it all adds up over time!

message 79: by Inda (new)

Inda (indaherwood) | 19 comments I only ever write when I have a great idea for a scene or chapter. I think when you force yourself to write something everyday without a solid idea, the outcome will look less than solid. Find your inspiration first! It makes the whole process a lot more fun. But that's just me. Everyone is different, that's the beauty in it ;)
