Kevin Estime (kevinestime) | 3 comments I have always been afraid to close my eyes when I shower. I don't know why. May be i'm superstitious. Maybe I have trust issues. Ding Dong. That's her. We have a lovely dinner. We have a lovely night. We go to sleep. Tap tap tap. The wind is blowing on that tree branch again. I keep forgetting to trim that. I open the window, and light a cigarette. The moonlight shines through the open window onto the bed. She looks so delicate lying there in the moonlight. I need a shower I think as I breath out the smoke, and flick the cig away. I turn on the water. When it's warm I step in. The shower water falls on my back. As I wash around my eyes careful to avoid the soap. I think this is stupid. I'm an adult, and I can shower with my eyes closed. This thought calms me as I close my eyes and wash my face. This is fine, why was I ever scared. The soap is still covering my face, when the water suddenly turn cold. No, it's freezing! In shock I open my eyes for a second. The soap stings my eyes badly, but I still saw someone else in the shower. I turn my face into the shower to rinse my eyes. It stings my face like walking in an ice storm. I turn back to open my eyes, but feel warmth. I stop dead in my tracks. Someone is breathing in my face. I feel the lights go out, like throwing a blanket over my head. The breath smells putrid. I whisper is that you babe. The raspy voice of an old woman replies open your eyes and i'll go away. My heart racing I shut my eyes tighter. I slowly loosen my eyes. They open slower than they ever have. The blurry figure in front of me starts to come into focus. Her skin is pale green, with big open gashes, silver hair, and eyes like two crescent moons. She smiles a toothless smile with black gums. Happy Halloween!

yay

Geoff (tobyornottoby) | 29 comments She moved through the eddies and ripples of the river with ease; a trail of mucous swirling after her. She paused at likely looking outcroppings of stones and river bottom detritus, searching for the morsels that might sustain her. The treasure trove that had been sustaining her from her earliest memories, was finally picked clean. Even the sedge larvae that worked their way into the joints between the bones of the corpse, were no longer easy to find. Time to move on.

But it was difficult. She felt connected to the algae covered skeleton in a way that was just beyond her understanding. It was more than simply food; it was Mary. Yes, yes!! Her name was Mary.
