Carly (carlysashacohen) Hi guys!

So I just started my blog a few weeks ago (http://bookshopgirl.wordpress.com) and I've been trying to figure this whole blogging thing out bit by bit, but I think it's time I ask for some advice! Here are a few questions I've had along the way:

1. I want to create a blogroll of some sort, do I have to ask permission from other bloggers to link to them, or is it ok if I just have a list of blogs I love to read. I'm guessing they wouldn't mind the linkage, but I'm not sure what proper blogging etiquette is.

2. I'm using wordpress, and I'm wondering if the stats include people who are viewing my blog through an RSS reader? I have no idea, and just kind of wondering.

ok so I guess I only have two questions so far. Thanks for the help, this is all very new to me, but it's been a lot of fun so far!

Sally (sallysimply) 1. Some people just post the blogroll without letting anybody know, while others send some sort of email or leave a comment saying "I really like your blog and have added you to my blogroll (include the link here). Please check out my blog and feel free to add me to your blogroll if you'd like."

2. I don't use Wordpress so I can't help you out with that question, but I think there are other things you can use to track RSS feeds. Feedburner is one.

Jacqui (worddreams) | 18 comments Wordpress has a spot for 'trackbacks' on the 'edit post' screen. We put the site we're linking there and it pings them.

I like the email idea. It might generate a partnership.

Carly (carlysashacohen) Thanks for the help Sally & Jacqui. I think I will email other bloggers before adding them to my blogroll. I'll definitely check out the trackbacks. Thanks!!

Jacqui (worddreams) | 18 comments If you use Feedburner, it tells you how many feeds you have. And Technorati gives an 'authority' ranking, which is how many people link to you (of course, you have to claim your blog first). I don't know how relevant any of their numbers are, though, because I don't know what the average number of feeds or links is.

I love statistics.
