Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I lurve Manon to death, but I don't really get the whole Manorian ship because I view Manon as LGBT. Anyone else?

message 102: by Diane (new)

Diane (mystifiedswift) Same

message 103: by Solaris (new)

Solaris (solarisduvaniel) I'm fine with Manon being straight, I don't mind, but I don't much see a future between her and Dorian, if they survive. At least not in the traditional sense.

Dorian is heir and monarch of his own kingdom, and Manon is heir and [monarch] of hers, so a traditional union isn't plausible? There's always Hollin if Dorian is determined, but.....

Maybe they could have heirs with each other, but not *be* together, and one heir will be for the witch lands, the other for Adarlan?

*shrugs* It's fun to conjecture. :)

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) I ship Asterin and Manon. What is their ship name anyway?

message 105: by Diane (new)

Diane (mystifiedswift) I don't think they have one... because they're related.

true

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) Yeah, I guess. Well then Manon is in no need of a guy/ girl.

Chloe | 58 comments Yh from the way EoS is going, it looks like Manorian is probably gonna happen. I don't think it's a, like, 'realistic' relationship

message 110: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 31, 2016 12:49PM) (new)

I don't ship her with anyone really. Right now, I think Dorian just needs his friends and some support, not having sexual relations. And if I ship her with with anyone, it'd be Asterin, but that is a little weird cuz they're cousins.

And she's supposed to hate men. I don't get why Manorian is a thing. Like, maybe they could end up as really platonic friends, but idk.....

message 111: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 31, 2016 01:04PM) (new)

I know. I have all these feelings because in Tog, I shipped Dorian and Celaena.

In CoM, I shipped Chaol and Celaena.

In HoF, I just wanted Aelin to be alone. (until rowan let her sleep on his bed and he stopped being an ass)

In QoS, RowAelin was life.

And I'm only halfway through EoS (dont kill me, i'm not normally this slow!) but I know what happens, and I'm not happy.

message 112: by [deleted user] (new)

Am I the only one who wants Manon to just stay single? Manorian didn't satisfy me, partly because I felt like Manon lost some of her fierce butt-kicking attitude during that whole thing. Before Dorian, she was all "Let's kill some mortals, train wyverns, steal spider silk, fight the queen of Terrasen, and save my cousin from my evil grandmother!" And then Dorian came along and she was like "Ehhh...lust." :/

message 113: by Solaris (last edited Oct 31, 2016 05:36PM) (new)

Solaris (solarisduvaniel) Witches are very promiscuous to begin with and tumble men as often as they eat them. It's a sport to them. Maybe Manon has a lot more duties as a leader that she's not rolling in the hay as much as the others, but I don't recall her being particularly choosy either.

Though I do see her being paired up as a large part of her own character development--- away from cruel, soulless, predatory Ironteeth to being more balanced, decent, compassionate-- Crochan. The world is not so black and white after all. And men are not just sexual/food/inferior objects.

"Men are friends. Not food." (finding dori anyone?) Ha, "Finding Dorian"!!

If she's not paired up with anyone in the end, then at least whatever she had with Dorian would be testament to experiencing something new. She cared enough not to kill him and felt things other than food and sex, even if the pairing is not endgame.

Arguably same with the way she perceives the Thirteen and how she realizes she cares for them--feels joy with them (and Abraxos). However, with the Thirteen, she always has. Even if it's out of duty, obedience, traidition, dominance. They're witches, females, just like her. Dorian seems more like an exploration, and a choice toward growth and discovery/revelation.

Solaris (solarisduvaniel) Woops. Spelled it wrong. Finding Dory

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) Manon liking someone romantically was fine, even Dorian, but the turn their relationship took is disappointing. If both of them had had a relationship, any kind, that improves both of them, I would have been happy. I don't see how being horny all the time supports character development. Now, I can't find anyone that will fit with her ( I know there are Malide shippers, but I didn't feel chemistry between them. They would have been a good pair if there was romance.) So I think she can feel things with friends, too, and that is a way better option.

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) ^^ Yes!

Solaris (solarisduvaniel) Thank you for stating your stance for the umpteenth time. I think we finally got it.

I'm proud of my character analysis of what the author has given, and accept how the book has been written accordingly.

I didn't know desire made you less bad-ass.
I didn't know love made you less bad-ass.
I didn't know having sex one time with one person out of three books made you a horndog and a softie.

Is Manon a nun??
THAT would explain it....

Hahahahaa!!!! That comment though!

THANK YOU! This post completely expresses my feelings on Manon and just badass characters in general,

I've decided Manorian is ok, if that's what Sarah wants and if it will help Dorian's healing process,

As long as they are happy and consensual, then I'll be happy.

:)

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) Love, desire and sex doesn't make you less badass. But Manon didn't act like herself and neither did Dorian. I get that the both of them are going through fundamental changes right now, but those changes make you grow and not just make you more horny. Manon and Dorian both need a healthy relationship ( not only romantic ) to grow properly. I wouldn't even mind if Manorian improved in the next book. I'm just saying I don't support what was happening in EoS. I accept the book however it is written but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Having sex is not bad, but not doing anything else is.

message 122: by [deleted user] (new)

^^ I definitely agree with you Bookish!

Dawn | 182 comments I'm questioning why I continue to punish myself.

Off topic but... how the hell are we supposed to choose between A Torch Against the Night, Crooked Kingdom, Eos, ACOMAF, and Winner's Kiss?!

message 126: by Diane (new)

Diane (mystifiedswift) Truth. I, in the end, chose ACOMAF.

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) I can't choose between ACOMAF, Crooked Kingdom and currently reading The Raven King. ACOMAF vs. Crooked Kingdom is crazy.

I've read the selection and the winners curse and I didn't think they were very similar. If you're on the fence about the winners curse I'd give it a shot.

I voted for ACOMAF for best ya fantasy. That was the hardest category for me by far.

message 129: by Tristen (last edited Nov 03, 2016 03:41PM) (new)

Tristen (bo0kenthusiast) The Winner's Curse is DEFINITELY not like the romance in The Selection. I assure you.

Also, I voted for ACOMAF because I couldn't read anything but that book for a while . . . meaning I read it 7 times in a row.

message 130: by Diane (new)

Diane (mystifiedswift) Guys, you know what's weird? I was looking through Celtic names and found out this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhiannon

There are a ton of different "Rhiannon goddess" things, but this I think is the most accurate.
Rhiannon Crochan.
Crochan is Welsh for "cauldron".
Interesting.

message 131: by Tristen (new)

Tristen (bo0kenthusiast) TOO MANY ACOMAF PARALLELS (not complaining tho)

DEAD

maddi (lostmorgenstern) anyone else think that manon is a lesbian and hates manorian?

Sadia | 22 comments Maddi wrote: "anyone else think that manon is a lesbian and hates manorian?"

Yes! you read my mind! I think she puts off this vibe that's just not good for Dorian. But I think their relationship is forced and him and Celaena are meant to be.
