Daniel -- I read and interpreted Deborah's comments more in line with the second sentence above than the first, i.e., if you vote and your choice is selected, do consider that you are making a commitment to participate.
While recognizing the great value oftentimes of reading the suggestions of others when participating in a reading group, I personally, with the wealth of options available for online groups, consider NOT having a choice selected for which I have voted provides a window to pursue some other areas of interest. All of this does not imply but what I may still read Let the Great World Spin; I just am trying to say that I hope the culture we are attempting to create is that if your vote IS selected, you will contribute to the discussion. (Even if just once to share why you now can't get to it with the group! And, of course, hopefully much more.)

Yes, and my apologies if I muddied the waters. What we are after is exactly what you describe: creating a culture where "if your vote IS selected, you will contribute to the discussion." Thanks for helping to clarify the statement!

For those who may have skimmed over Deborah's poll messages, I would like to raise the issue here as well of voting obligations. If you cast a vote to select our Open Pick read, the expectation is that you will join in the discussion. Keeping that in mind, be sure to grab yourself a copy - especially if you voted for it! - and join us for what should be a lively discussion.
