John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments So I'm kind of new(ish) to Goodreads - I've been a member for a while but not really engaged much in the forums to date as there seem to be so many of them and I'm not quite sure where to begin!
Is this place as big and scary as it looks?!

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Only if you take your hands away from your eyes.

Once you get used to it it's easy. Find a group you like the look of. Here's a good start, and you may even decide to stay. Pick a couple of threads you like the look of and comment. the good morning thread is a good place to visit, as it gets regula posts.

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments But if I take my hands away from my eyes, you'll see how dead behind them I actually am!

Thanks for the advice, I'll say an early afternoon hello in the good morning thread. better late than never.

message 4: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Yep, it's not exclusive to morning greetings.

message 5: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hey there! You'll always find a few friends here - if you look under tables and behind sofas and such.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Be careful with Sofas here, the Higgs-Boson was found behind one of them.

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments I found an ISIS splinter group behind a chaise longue once.

message 8: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Only 'cos I stashed it there. You never know when one might come in handy.

message 9: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I wondered where you kept your stash . . .

message 10: by John (new)

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments Sorry, you said 'stash', I read it as 'g'... never mind.

message 11: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Stag? Better ask Lindsay about that. No on second thoughts, his memory is still rather hazy ;)

message 12: by John (new)

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments Close, Tim!

message 13: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Hey John!! I just said welcome in the morning thread but it may get lost so welcome here too :-)

message 14: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Hi John and welcome. Goodreads is definitely big but not at all scary except if you open your own author thread. Then you can expect Gingerlily to fill it up with elephants, someone else measures it up for curtains, everyone traipses through and holds a party and you're left to clean up the place.

You think I'm kidding? Just open your own author thread in 'Meet the Authors'. And make sure you put your name in the thread title or Patti flings you in the sin bin.

Have a great time!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You want an elephant?

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Damn, elephant disguised as XML. Clever ploy GL.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments It didn't work though, as you can see above...

message 18: by John (new)

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments I now no longer want to be in this group. I want to be in a group that allows me to pet baby elephants all day. Please organise, Anna and Gingerlily. Thanking you in advance.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Can't you just stroke the screen?

Elephant porn now?

message 21: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Why not?

It's less traumatising than squid porn

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Maybe not, for the elephant!

message 23: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments This is true

message 24: by John (new)

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments Squid porn? I think I may have seen an Mpeg of that once.....

I once saw a baby elephant fall head over heels down the slope to the watering hole. It's mother swung her trunk as if to say 'Stop muckin' about'.

Sadly I don't think I can squeeze that into one of my historical romances! Not yet anyway ;o)

message 26: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Water for Elephants?

(a rather good historical that came out of NaNoWriMo, and later became a film...)

message 27: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Water for Elephants

52,000+ reviews! Tonight I shall dream...

Of elephants?

message 29: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Could an infinite number of elephants type Hamlet?

message 30: by John (new)

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments This thread has swung in more directions than David Bowie's sexuality.

message 31: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Welcome to this group's style of conversation, John.

message 32: by John (new)

John Marrs (johnnox) | 62 comments I'm getting that, Will!

message 33: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments And be careful with typos; infamy can be long lasting.

message 34: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments John - Oh you wait 'til the Davids pile in, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

As for Will, well John, he's an example of what happens to us all in the end. (Just kidding, Will.)

Jud - Dreaming of elephants trampling my few reviews.

message 35: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments No Anna, you are quite right.

meeting Patti and GL has subverted me from being a quiet, normal person. It's their fault. I may sue.

message 36: by Gingerlily - The Full Wild (last edited Sep 15, 2015 06:24AM) (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Don't blame me, I used to be quiet and normal as well...

Sorry, that should have read 'quite abnormal'.

Not unless you make a bigger keyboard.

Predictive text strikes again, eh?

message 39: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Did you summon me, Anna?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Tim wrote: "Will wrote: "Could an infinite number of elephants type Hamlet?"

Plus a bigger planet. You would not believe the amount of space an infinite number of elephants takes up!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm not cleaning up after them.

Following David round the group with a bin bag is job enough.

message 42: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I also wouldn't want to stand behind them.

message 43: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments David wrote: "Did you summon me, Anna?"

Well, yes, in a way, David, but I expected you to arrive in a puff of smoke.

Trust me, that might be preferable to facing them head on.

Smoking is anti social. These days wizards are poring over their grimoirs to find an ecologically acceptable substitute. A fortune awaits the finder...

message 46: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Actually in these politically correct times they're unlikely to arrive in a puff of anything ;-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments A cloud of esmoke?
