jonah If you are starting the Shannara series, you probably want to start with the very first trilogy, which is comprised of three books. The Sword of Shannara (#1), The Elfstones Of Shannara (#2), and The Wishsong of Shannara (#3).

Thanks, much appreciated.

Tony Dawn | 3 comments I recently went through and read this epic series again, but I started with the Word and the Void Trilogy and then onto the Genesis of Shannara.
It was pretty cool to go from the start of this awesome 'history' from a start point near our own time. It sort of changed the books from fantasy to alternative future.
Definitely worth a read, awesome books.

Thanks Tony, very interesting but I think that I will start from Sword as I have never read this series before, otherwise I might be confused.

That's how Brooks recommends we start anyway. That's what I'll be doing.

August | 1 comments I have been a Shannara reader since I was about 14 (47 now!). Over the past year, I have decided to go back and reread the series in chronological order as opposed to published order. I am loving it!! It is a much fresher perspective and really helps fill in gaps. However, as folks have said, if you are new to Shannara, stick to published order as the chronological order will have spoilers for you. I am just wrapping up First King right now.

I'm glad to hear this! I also fell in love with the world of Shannara when i was around the same age, and have recently decided that i may want to re-read them all in chronological order. Now i definetly will.

Terry has another list on goodreads as well for new readers but not chronological order nor publication order, maybe this threads the line so there are no spoilers yet you get a better flow?

I'm currently reading Wishsong of Shannara.
