I know September isn't yet half over, but lets get the word out... who has nominations for BOTM for October?

Post them here and I'll get a poll up after a few nominations. Let's say... first four nominations get to go on to the poll.

Looking forward to seeing your choices!

Anna (icykitty) | 16 comments what kinds of genres do people like, so we know what kinds of books to suggest? like i can recommend terry pratchett books for like 2 years straight lol, but would people be into them?

Let's go with the theme of fantasy this month. Also, please note, do NOT submit anything but the first in a series.

Thanks!

Anna (icykitty) | 16 comments Thanks for the clarification. :) both of the books i would recommend are 10 bucks on kindle (and even more in physical form)... how do we work around possibly not being able to afford certain books?

Try not to pick anything outrageous, but also don't stress over cost. The fifth option to vote for every month will be one that is free or cheaper.

Anna (icykitty) | 16 comments also, since it's getting close to the deadline to submit: if nobody else has any submissions, i also nominate Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. It's the first in his Discworld series. I haven't been reading the series chronologically, and I haven't read this one yet.

If no one nominates another book I will use both of your suggestions. Thanks for the enthusiasm!

A.V. Sanders | 10 comments So...hm. This is a hard one to define my feelings about. There were aspects I did like, and others I didn't. I am curious to see what other people say.

I will say this: in her acknowledgments, Ms. Healey credits an editing TEAM (not fair) of six people for 'making her sound smarter than she really is'. Why in the world did the team not do a bloody count-check on the number of times the word 'twist' and its variations were used? I was going mad. *puts fists on hips* <-- See what I did there? lol I didn't like THAT use of repeated action, either...

I'm not a big fantasy person, but that's not what bothered me as much as I felt the emotional cues missed the mark for me. (Although I have to admit, learning that the crux of the story was based on sneaking through a giant spiked vagina sort of changed things for me.) You guys?

I wish I had a team of editors! Agreed though with most of what you said. The characters felt young, really young, and if they are truly that young... why are they saving the world?

The fantasy aspects weren't bad, but I also agree that the giant woman being the main climactic event was... odd.

What does everyone thing about the use of the play in the story, did it add to the read? Did you like the use of it in the final battle?

Would you read the next book?
