This section covers Prologue: Milo of Order Murro through to the 2nd Clara chapter. The first sentences of the section are:

Milo slipped in the darkness, falling to one knee. The stones of the beach cut his skin, and the blood darkened the oiled wool of his leggings.

Teanka | 134 comments I was wondering why the prologue was about Milo instead of the usual Kit. I liked reading the prologues and epilogues from Kit's perspective. I hope he doesn't die in this book.

I also noticed there are no additional characters to replace Dawson, so we are down to 4 POVs. I'd like to hear from somebody new, but that's OK anyway, I suppose.

This section, just as the respective section in The King's Blood (I'm reading them back to back), provides us with an introduction to what is going to happen. It starts exactly one year later than the beginning of the previous one, in early spring. I liked Clara's sections most, she is essentially continuing what Dawson tried to do and botched so badly. I'm sure she will be a lot more effective at it than he was and am looking forward to seeing her first results.

I'm also glad that Cithrin moved to another city and lives among the Timzinae now. Nice to observe another race in action. And Marcus and Kit adventures in Lyoneia seem promising so far. All in all, an interesting beginning, I hope that with the new war Geder is weighing on Antea's neighbours we'll see much more action soon.

Totally unrelated but your dogs are adorable!

Teanka | 134 comments LOL, thanks Rob :) Their names are Bemol and Edur, two beagle guys. I have them since they were puppies.

Lindsay | 546 comments If what's coming is what I think is coming Cithrin should be in danger of getting a complex about places that she lives in or visits. She's something of a stormcrow.

Clara and Cithrin are both wonderful characters. It looks like all the politics and power stuff is going to be with the ladies in this novel. It's also great to see Cithrin getting the respect of the Medean bank. It's pretty clear that she's a potential heir at this point.

But that being said, I'm also really excited to see Marcus and Kit getting somewhere interesting.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I agree that Clara will be more effective than Dawson - she is much more subtle. She may be my favorite character of the series - although I do love the Marcus and Kit interaction.

Bill | 1596 comments This section took me way too long. Been to tired to make much progress. Nice setup section. I also find Clara to be the most interesting. Her sons seemingly will give her access to swaying the nobles/army, navy and old priesthood to her side. Kind of tired of hearing about Vincen already.
