ABANDONED. book about a miner who falls in love and has to strike it rich in order to win fathers approval

Hi im trying to find this book but I only have tidbits of info so here it goes. The story is about a miner who likes the daughter of the richest man in town. He loves her very much but the father says hes not good enough. So the miner goes to become wealthy in order to win the fathers approval. He strikes it rich and goes back to tell the father of the daughter that he is wealthy now. The father then tries to kill him and leaves him left for dead in the desert.. however the miner does not die! if anyone has any relative info it would be much appreciated. thank you.
