Hope you can use them on mine (https://www.inkshares.com/books/these...) but certainly not a requirement. Have followed your book -- looking forward to its pre-sale campaign!
Hey everyone, I know it's been a pretty wild day so far, but I really want a few more people to point their credits cannon to my book. I'm nearly at 100 preorders and are so close to reach the halfway mark to quill. So if I don't sound greedy or diverted your attention, please preorder my book and send me some credits to shoot your way.

Liam, you’re the best ever!
Am I missing anyone?
Here ya go!
Hey everyone. This I am not representing official word from Inkshares, but please be careful when trading pre-orders and if you have any questions about pre-order methods please email hello@inkshares.com for rule clarification. Here's a line from the Terms of Service.
The purpose of Inkshares is to highlight broad reader interest in specific works. Accordingly, please do not "game" the system. As an author, don't pre-order your own book or encourage others to order copies of your book through multiple accounts. As a reader or purchaser, don't create multiple accounts so as to order more copies of any title. Do not engage in any scheme or exchange of promises that would lead to the ordering of a book in a manner not reflective of genuine interest in the writing.
The line that concerns me from what I have seen in this thread: Do not engage in any scheme or exchange of promises that would lead to the ordering of a book in a manner not reflective of genuine interest in the writing.
Do not pre-order a book out of obligation. Only pre-order books you are genuinely interested in reading.

Hey Joe, thanks for the reminder.I can speak for myself and say these are books I am genuinely interested in. Some I've been wanting for a long time, but never had the credits, so someone pointed me here. This thread has been here since the beginning of September, and I've never used it until now, as I near the end of my campaign.
If Inkshares decides to stop this thread, they would logically have to stop threads related to John's list, since this entire Goodreads Group is just for authors, and authors helping authors.
I would hope those purchasing my book are also genuinely interested, I would want real readers since this is just book 1, so I need to generate real interest to sell the rest of the series.
I've been posting my last push effort in other places as well.
Anyway, anyone interested in checking out Prophecy of the Stars? Now I have 19 days left.

Just chiming in on the Goodwill train to add to what @joe said here. From what I understand (reading how this started), the idea is it's a way of paying it forward not for our own gain. For example, let's say I'm going to order a book I really want. I use someone's referral link (coming here to grab one), to get the credit. They then can pay it forward -- when they want to order a book they really want to read they use someone's referral link here to get them credit. After all, the referral links are designed to get anyone who orders a new book credit -- they are public and posted to FB / Twitter is you choose, so there's nothing wrong with using yours or someone else's referral link.Where I draw the line, personally, is the whole business of swapping. If someone orders my book I assume it is because they want to read it. If not, then I don't want them ordering my book because otherwise come publication day I am going to have "sold" XX-copies but how many of those will actually be copies that people are going to enjoy and review to help me spread the word?
But of course this is a community so what I prefer to do and/or how I choose to engage with this Goodwill train concept is really up to me -- I will not presume to tell anyone else how they are to do it. But I think @Joe brings up a good point just to be careful because we don't want anyone getting in trouble, so it's good to verify that what we are doing is indeed in line with Inkshares' vision.

For example..."I definitely see what you and Joe are saying, and in the past I have come up squarely against the preorder trade initiative. However, now that I am sitting within sight of the goal of actually getting published and have no more personal network to lean on, I see this as a tool I intend to use. I have multiple accounts (largely because of Inkshares wonky login system) but I won't use those to order books because I have seen how that looks from the other side of the table.
Desperate times and all that. I do know that it's a tricky thing to pin down genuine interest when it comes to this contest. There are many books I would never have known about if it weren't for this thread. I have backed more books on this site than I could ever read (I'm a very slow reader).
Do I preorder trade books I would never read? Honestly I used to. Some I was pressured into ordering, so I don't think Inkshares ToS is going to come down on us just trading links when the more insidious forms of promotion were allowed for previously published books. Others I used to preorder in direct hope of trades. This go around I'm limiting myself to genres I am interested in. We're getting to a point on the site where we have hundreds of books, and limited time to absorb them. If something intrigues me about a book (even if it's just the genre), does that pass the "genuine interest" litmus test? I know the general reading public make book buying decisions with the same level of research as I, and most of the successful book purchases are fed through at least one avenue of marketing. As I see it, we are just using the tools at our disposal as best we can in a closed system with virtually no outside visibility.
Hi, all. I'm the new kid on the block, but I and my space opera Lucky are taking part in the Nerdist contest through March 15. I'm trying really hard to get into the top 3 but my numbers are climbing oh so slowly. That being said, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to exchange pre-orders with anyone who would be willing. I've added a referral link at the bottom so I'll have credits to reciprocate with. Thanks, all. :)https://www.inkshares.com/books/lucky
Very much in agreement with Amanda over this one. And it brings up the initial concern I've always had since the beginning: The fact that the author/reader ratio is extremely author heavy. I would estimate that 90% of my preorders are from other authors, and in the 5.5 months I've been here 80% of those authors pitched me afterwards asking me to preorder their book in return. Most of the time I had to ignore the requests, which felt extremely awkward. Especially when it's a book I've wanted. I just don't have the money to buy 5 or 6 books a day. And I never had any luck getting the Facebook crowd to use referrals so I could generate credits to return those favors. Which brings me to the last 10%. 7% are friends and family who were nice enough to help at the outset, but really haven't had any intention of reading mine, let alone anyone else's. Out of those authors who preordered, how many plan to read it? The sad thing is, I have no idea. Could this whole effort be for nothing? Even if I make the Quills goal? Will Inkshares be any better for me then CreateSpace? I'd still have to do all my own marketing, cover, I don't remember, but maybe even editing... I was hoping the readers are actually readers, and that by continuing my efforts here might actually garner real fans of the book, more so than just trying on my own with Createspace. But I really have no idea. That missing 3% are those who I am positive want to read the book. Not great numbers, even for my not so great math skills. This is the reason I've been back and forth about pushing for sales some weeks, backing off others. But having the last weeks creeping up, and still no word from the publisher that had asked for my manuscript (after 10 weeks) I feel a fresh urgency. Someone suggested I try this thread, so I did, and it offered me one last chance. But now these questions arise, tho this thread has been here since September, and in looking through it, most have been straight up trading. Many used this as a way to make their goal, perhaps even win contests. To decide it's not legal now, would be very unfair at this point.
And with that ratio, do we really have a choice? Not everyone can go out and pay $500 a table at comic cons to hope to get actual readers for Inkshares and a few preorders they can call their own.
I'm not trying to come in here and derail the Goodwill train. This forum was created to help authors assemble and help each other. Also, keep in mind that I started with Inkshares when the credit system was the wild west. (The horror... the horror) I do not speak for Inkshares. They are a very proactive team and if there is an issue with the credits system they will modify it, just like the did before. I am only trying to help based on my time here.
When I saw the thread being active for so long, and with the influx of new authors from the latest Nerdist contest I wanted to highlight the terms and conditions of the site. I know that not everyone reads them.

I also saw the comment on Johnslist and I also wanted to put out a reminder for the new people on that. Johnslist is just a cheeky name we gave that section because John is so active in promoting writers, but John doesn't actually run that section. The community owns it. The only rule is that you cannot submit your own book. So if you see another community member that really deserves it make an entry and start organizing people to spread the word. I know that is not something people are likely to do during a contest, but consider it afterward. I was talking to some of the other authors earlier today and there are several books that fell through the cracks and I have regrets that we did not push.
I'll try to check in here and there if anyone has questions or comments. I'm not receiving the emails for the thread right now (user error on my end I am sure.)
Good luck funding!

You've had some unique experiences coming from the first S&L contest, where things were pretty wild west from what I understand.
In the end it comes down to those who already have platforms, those that have the funding to market their books, and those of us at the tail end with those of us with neither. It does honestly seem like a similar case to most selfpub authors where we sit in rooms marketing to other authors. In this case though, that marketing might actually help some pretty great books get at least a free ISBN and some copyediting. That alone will save me half of the $1700 that I spent on my first book.
