I really loved this when I read it too! Oscar Wilde is so witty. Almost every page has a quotable quote.
I'm in love with Oscar Wilde, after reading Dorian Grey and then this play he has become one of my favorite authors. No one writes sarcasm like he does, this book had me laughing out loud all the way through.
I am starting this play today. Haven't read anything buy Oscar Wilde previously and as Ana and Renata seem to have enjoyed this play and rated it 4 stars and above it seems like an opportunity to give something written by him a go.
Not knowing what to expect I was starting to wonder what all the fuss was about. However, the ending was unexpected and quite funny. Would love to see it acted out.
I can't remember if I ever saw the play or not (I may have, but I have a horrible memory), but I plan to read this for the Play week :DI have high expectations ^-^
I'm reading this now and I'm surprised that it's so short and really funny! :) I think I should read his other books!
Sophie wrote: "I was as surprised as you! It's good to see that classics aren't all long and boring haha"Haha! Right! It's funny while dealing with different themes like social class and family. If all classics were like this, it would be my favorite genre! :D
As with the others in the group that read this play, I found it sooo funny, in many ways. Mainly, it was the social class reactions, the shallowness of some of the players. Jane Austin and P G Wodehouse have written books which target the upper classes and their snobbish, shallow ways. This is another. When I read Jane Austin in high school, I found her so funny. Wasn't certain that others found it so. Anyway, The Importance of Being Earnest has made me want to see the play and read more of his work.
I loved the movie with Colin Firth and am looking forward to reading this one for the 2016 challenge.
