what did you guys think of weeks one reading specifically? (pages 1-101) I still have a few chapters to finish up (busy week :( ) but I agree about the writing! it's my favorite aspect of the book so far! I'm completely in love with the writing. also, I love Shahrzad! she's one of the best female characters I've read in a long time.

Yeah, she's amazing!!

message 6: by Isabella (new)

Isabella (bellasbookmark) I love Shahrzad! She's confident and spunky and cunning and funny... She is so far my favorite female character I've ever read honestly.

message 7: by Laura (new)

Laura (magicteabooks) | 5 comments So far it hasn't really captured my attention. At first I had trouble distinguishing the characters apart, probably largely in part because I don't know how to pronounce any of their names. I also find the plot extremely predictable, hopefully that will change as the story develops.

The thing that lets me down a bit is that i can't pronounce as well but I find it AWESOME!!

message 9: by Isabella (new)

Isabella (bellasbookmark) I understand the part about the beginning being difficult too... I had the same problem where I didn't get what was happening it just seemed random to me like the author skipped all exposition and just jumped right into random events. But once you get past the first like 40 pages you'll understand what's happening and it gets so much better!

Same here!!! I am almost finished but yes, getting through it is a bit hard at first but then everything turns so magical and amazing

message 11: by Clyo (new)

Clyo (Las Páginas de Clyo) (paginasdeclyo) | 41 comments Well I got hooked right from the beginning. It's a 1001 nights re-telling and my mom used to read that book to me when I was a child. Maybe that's why it made sense for me since page one.

The writing it's magnificent. It's poetic, it's gorgeous, and it also leaves space for one to imagine aspects of the story. It creates a very vivid image in my head, but it lets me arrange it in the way I like it.

I really like the way Sharzad is being portrayed here. She's sazzy, she's silver tongued, I'm in total awe of her.
Khalid is what really intrigues me. I'm dying to know his dark secrets.

Bella (throneofpages1) I am soo late to the party but I'm 50 pages in (hopefully will catch up by tonight) and I am loving it so far. Yes the names of the people and places are weird but I loveee it, the suspense is killing me!!

I agreee Shahrzad (Sorry if i'm writing it wrong i suck at names) is a very refreshening character to read about, this book is all so very refreshening :o

message 15: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (missbookblogger) | 19 comments The different people are confusing me sometimes!! But overall, I like it. The only thing that's bothering me is how quickly Caliph took a fancy to Shahrzad. All she has to do is tell a story and he spares her life? I get that she intrigues him, but you'd think that after all this time, he'd be quick to let her go to save his people. I know the whole story thing is part of the 1001 Nights tale, but it seemed kind of forced to me.

I did really like the writing though and the general plot besides the things I mentioned above. I'm not liking it as much as I would've hoped, but as I get farther in, I'm hoping it'll get better for me!

That bothered me too! Why would he just spare her like that? Some of the other girls before Shahrzad probably did something to intrigue him but he didn't spare them.

Chloe (missbookblogger) | 19 comments (Sorry I'm on mobile and I don't know how to reply from here ahaha)

But I know!! Like what are the odds that he'd like the one girl that volunteered just so she could kill him? I know she's probably different than most because she's there voluntarily so still. Seems a bit unrealistic to me.

The writing makes up for it though! It's amazing! Can't wait for the next one!

Well,I agree with you girls but I think he spared her life because he was curious to see how the story ended at first and then he started realizing that what he actually felt about her was love. I personally love them as a couple because 'beauty and the beast' couples are my favorite and...you know what I mean.

But I overall think,as you guys said that the writing is probably the BEST part of the story. It captivated my heart from the very start, although it felt a bit hard to get into

I agree with you, Chloe. I believe it was the conection with his mother that spared Sharzads life that first night. And I feel it was her silver tongue and her wits that kept her alive until he took a liking to her.

She's a mystery to him, I believe.

message 21: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (missbookblogger) | 19 comments That does make sense...as I get further in I can see more why he would fall for her; specifically the part about how his mom used to read stories to him before she died.

Idek, I just do. SO much. Actually, I am almost done with he book and maybe this plays a role but who knows *shrugs* I guess it's just my weird mind

message 25: by Isabella (new)

Isabella (bellasbookmark) I totally agree!!! Maybe it's cause I've blown through the book so fast (I really tried to stick to schedule.. I really did but this book is just too good) but I'm so in love with Khalid. I'm such a sucker for a tortured soul to love!

message 26: by Mary ♥ (new)

Same here!! Tortured souls/boys with a sad backstory are just my cup of tea.
