haha, first, I am not offended in the least, but why do you say that, LG? I am a huge fan of the violin and, though I'm not an expert on various violinists, IMO he plays it the superbly. No, it may not be the typical classical version of Beethoven's 5th, I just love the way Garrett plays this grand instrument. So, I'm curious as to why you say that. I'm definitely open to opinions!

Thank you, Heather! - )"
My pleasure!"
Cool! Very entertaining! - )

This is not part of the guessing game. I'm only posting because someone left a comment saying Martha Argerich doesn't look great in jeans (she's wearing jeans because she's rehearsing). Argerich left a comment yesterday (it's her channel)....some type of symbol which doesn't show up properly. I wonder what. Poop emoji? Middle finger? Smiley face?

I don't like crossover music (classical pieces being adapted into rock). Bad playing...I listened to the snippets of one of his other crossover albums on Amazon to compare, and all the snippets were awful too. The ridiculous Axl Rose look. The video, which starts out wanting to be something mysterious with threatening figures from a Venetian masked ball and ends up with him getting feely with a woman in scanty aerobics clothes? It's so cheesy.
It sounds like he had a fabulous education, studying with Ida Haendel and Itzhak Perlman (which is sad, because I never would've guessed that). Received a (presumably loaned) Stradivarious from the German president. So he must have been very good at some point. But he decided to go in a different direction obviously...maybe the lure of bigger money than he could get playing classical.

Thank you for that explanation. I can see where you say "cross over" because that's what he does. He plays a lot more rock i.e. AC/DC. Nirvana, Metallica, etc. than he does classical. His look, I don't know about being like Axl Rose. haha. I think Garrett is much better looking and not such a freak!
But though you may not like it, I think the following is a good likeness of the traditional classical music. He doesn't 'rock cross over' on this one. And, I'm biased because Vivaldi is my favorite, and violin is my favorite, and I would love to meet this hunk of a man!
If you would like to check this out, It's Vivaldi 'Summer' without any 'rock' to it. I think he is amazing, even if he does rock, also. But I'm stuck in the 80s, too with all the hair bands and picked up a passion for the violin. Just a mix of my taste I guess

Now after your response, though LG, I think he looks a bit cocky in this. He probably is!

Good one! I was completely fooled! Interesting art work?

This shows he does have underlying talent, although the execution here is a bit rough in places. I also listened to a few minutes of him playing the Mendelssohn violin concerto, at a much younger age, with orchestra. It was very good. It makes me wonder what happened. Was he just not getting paying gigs at younger ages, and went into crossover because it was guaranteed to be higher paid? That's completely understandable, if he was poor as a churchmouse and needed the money. And it is possible to be the student of Itzhak Perlman and still not have the amazing career you had hoped for - many very talented classical soloists fall by the wayside because there aren't enough conductors willing to engage them. You would think Perlman with his clout would have been able to get him those gigs, but perhaps not.
But most classical musicians playing at the high level he was in his late teens or early 20s would see switching over completely to a crossover career as a desecration. The way these musicians see classical music, it's almost a sacred undertaking, to carry out the intentions of the composer.

I think this could be fun, but I'm also almost completely computer illiterate so the only way I could think to post a piece of music was to use youtube.
Rules are:
Click on the link then CLOSE YOUR EYES . Don't look at what you are going to listen to, don't cheat! Then post the name of the tune and its somposer.
Suggestions on a better way to do this are welcome!

I think there's only one symphony more famous (the fifth)
The choir at the end is the official hymn of the European Union:
Freude, schöner Götterfunken,
Tochter aus Elysium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische, dein Heiligtum!
Deine Zauber binden wieder,
Was die Mode streng geteilt;
Alle Menschen werden Brüder,
Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt.

I'm not sure what you mean by that...You have to remember, I'm techno-stupid...lol

If anyone knows how to do this, I would be happy to learn, I'm not sure what this entails so I welcome any suggestions!!

Have almost all his records and seen him twice in concert. waited in line for a signed DC and had a little chat. Very nice and polite man!

Goal is to bring out this year seven CD's of about an hour with atmospheric airs reminiscing of walks Einaudi made.
At the moment there are already three CD's

Hopefully this one isn't so easy...especially for Dirk! lol ;)

Should put some time in his symphonies I guess.
Good clip: Bernstein is always fun to watch, at the end he's almost dancing ;-)
