Week 1
10. Artistic/Creative Romance

Book: Rocky Mountain Heat by Vivian Arend
Rating: ★★★
How it fits: read by Mai on Jul 03, 15 (4 stars)
185 pages (Ebook Edition)
Review:
I've had this book on my TBR for almost three years and never got to it so this challenge was a nice way to finally read it. Since I added it so long ago I didn't remember much why I added so I didn't have high expectations. It was a decent enough and quick read, but nothing overly exiting.

It took some time getting into this book. I love this author so I didn't really take much notice that it wasn't a romance. The blurb makes it seem like it would be about Kismet and Mal. That is not the case, it's an Urban Fantasy that gives time to each of the Four Horsemen.
While by the end I thought it was a good, it wasn't a favourite of mine. It's an interesting world and there are questions left unanswered, so I do think I'll give the next book ago when it comes out.

Maritza, you can still include that in your review :) I usually make little comments like that myself.

Week 2: Bookcover-No People on Cover

This wasn't too bad. A lot of room for improvement. But then for a book just barely over 100 pages, I can't be too hard on it. It wasn't strong on BDSM, but gave me the idea that as the series goes on there will be more elements. Jonathan was a dominant in the book. And Monica followed along like a submissive, though I'm not sure how submissive she really is. Just initial impressions.

Week 2: No People on Cover
White Oleander

400 pages
Rating: ★★
While not necessarily a bad book, this just wasn't for me. I strongly disliked the MC and couldn't relate to her at all. Astrid is fourteen in the beginning of the book, her mother is a crazy and self-centered author who is sent to prison for murder of one of the men in her life. Maybe light spoilers, I tag it just to be save (view spoiler) .
The prose didn't help. Full of similes and metaphors, the pace is slow and the style just isn't my cup of tea. I'm glad I got through with it. Still two stars, since this is more about me not being able to understand the MC.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Review: Up, down, up, down. This one was a roller coaster. It was slow at first but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down! Definitely kept me guessing on who the bad guy was and I'm ready to read #2!

Will post review in morning.

But it's not problem, Pam. I just wanted to make sure you saw it.

Review - oh my word I loved this book. It is rare that I am able to read a book where the man is so sure of himself that he can let the woman dominate him without feeling the need to take over. The only reason I finished so fast is because the book is due back at the library tomorrow. I Was really getting into the relationship between Vanessa a Domme and Holden a Submissive. I need to read the rest of this series and so do you.

Week 2
3. Bookcover - No people on Cover

Book: The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz
Rating: ★★
400 pages (Hardcover Edition)
Review:
I really liked Stieg Larsson's books when I first discovered them back in 2008. They were unique and good in a way all Scandinavian mystery books are. I didn't have any specific expectation when I saw they are trying to continue the series with new author and in a way that's a good thing. The book was so bad it actually hurt to read it and I kept reading just to see if it gets any better (sadly it didn't).
This book clearly shows sometimes it's better to leave things like they were and not tarnish another author's work with writing that is not worthy of the original work.

oops i misspoke i was not on any winning team for this challenge. i did not brag for nothing. my conscious is now clear jajajaj

I was happy to learn there was going to be a sequel with Miro and Ian. They are partners in job and home life. They work well together and you can see that they love each other. I love that they work for Sam Kage. Plenty of action and fun along the way. I hope that there will be more from these two in the future.
