Option 1: Bookcover without people
The Murderer's Daughter by Jonathan Kellerman
Rating: ★★ 1/2
Review: It took me a long time to finish this book, even considering the creeping crud that has been going through the house. That usually indicates I'm struggling to finish otherwise I make excuses for why I should be reading. I didn't hate it--it is a thinking book. Kellerman has spent a lifetime writing about some disturbed people and this was no different. The main character is detached in many ways but that is precisely the point. Probably only a book for people who have invested time in reading him; if this was the first one I read, it would be the last.

Marrow by Tarryn Fisher

I had a hard time rating this one. The first half blew me away. It was easily a five stars read. The second half not so much, I questioned the MC's motives and actions and lost my sympathy for her. I thought the book was trying too hard to be edgy. Still there was plenty about it that I liked.

Review: I liked this book more than I expected to do. Cover is hot, sex is hot and I liked the way the characters developed. I also liked it more than the first book in the series which I also read for a challenge. Baseball player gets involved with his agent who has been in love with him but managed to keep it professional. Fall out from the relationship. I loved the ending.

Review: It was cute, predictable. I found myself rooting more for the dad and the team publicist and wanted their story instead of Brody and Ann's. I didn't find Ann to be very interesting but I LOVED her best friend Lenny.

Game Misconduct (The Dartmouth Cobras, #1) by Bianca Sommerland

I'm going to start off by saying there was A LOT of sex. But the author did a great job of adding in the story of how the characters fell in love too. A lot of smut, but plenty of non-smut story. I was a little confused in the beginning about who was who though. Also, if you don't know anything about hockey, you may not understand small parts. Not enough to take away from the story though.

Normally I would be bored out of my mind reading about all the sex. But there was enough of a story to keep it balanced. I like this author too. So I definitely recommend her.

Book: Kulti by Mariana Zapata
Rating: ★★★★★
How it fits: #4 on Working Up a Sweat: Female Athletes in Romance Novels
495 pages (Kindle Edition)
Review:
I usually prefer reading shorter and easier books to read with more emphasis on the romance, but I really liked Under Locke that wasn't so I decided to try Kulti as well. The story mostly circled around soccer and there was just a bit of romance, mostly at the very end but the author has a talent for creating interesting story that kept me reading without even thinking about not finishing the book. I hope the author continues with her work and I can get more of similar books to read.

2/10
4 stars

After 22 instalments in this series. I still find then fun and entertaining. Bricker has been waiting for his life mate for a while now and finally in this one her finds her. Although now all goes as planned. There were some funny moments in this one. I liked how the others teased Bricker back for the teasing he gave them when they found their life mates. I liked how the story played out. Looking forward the next book.

First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones

Rating: ★★ (15/10/03)

Review:
I know a lot of my friends rave about the series and the premise seemed very promising: A female private investigator, who is also a grim reaper in a funny urban fantasy series - I hoped for something like the TV show 'Dead Like Me', which I love. Well, the humor wasn't mine, I thought the MC's wise-cracking was just annoying. The mystery part was okay, but the romance didn't work for me: Reyes was just a creep IMHO. (view spoiler)
Two stars, because there is potential for a good story here, even if a lot of it remained unused and because humor is a matter of personal taste.

Review: I had no idea what to expect with this book but I loved it.
