somehow these characters made me uncomfortable with their undeniably strong , awkward and distinct personality, though i know charlie has mental (not so) issues.

I think its the fact that they are (and were) both extremely troubled people (or characters).

That's interesting. For some reason, I personally loved Charlie and found myself annoyed by Alaska. I didn't find them very similar. I mean, they were both unique characters, but quite different.

yeah I have to agree with Kay, Charlie was just overall nice, but Alaska just kept pissing me off

I saw Alaska and Sam as more similar than Charlie and Alaska, although Sam annoyed me whereas Alaska did not.

I think that Alaska and Charlie both have a similar kind of brokenness inside of them, but Charlie let his brokenness take him out of the world and all of the good things in it, and Alaska tried to throw herself into society in order to run away from her problems and then they built up on top of her until she couldn't take it anymore. They are very similar deep down, but drastically different on the surface and in how they deal with their problems.

I think that Charlie and Alaska are similar in the sense that they are both troubled and carry around some really dark things from their past. But they are totally diffrent personality wise, and with how their stories end.

I agree. But the differences I found, was that in my opinion Charlie is dead boring and Alaska is dead annoying.
