Christine | 798 comments The Graveyard is one of my favorite Gaiman books.

Does The Flight of Gemma Hardy count as a book with "light" in its title?

I liked it but didn't love it. I liked Coraline a lot more.
I thought Coraline was a creepier book and I guess I just liked that story better overall.
I still want to read The Ocean at the End of the Lane :)

message 70: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I did not read Coraline but I saw the movie. I thought it was a beautiful movie, artistically as well as the story. Definitely creepy too. I guess I will have to read it. I think the next Gaiman I am going to read is Stardust I have an illustrated edition.

Danell (danellbookworm) | 685 comments "Coraline" is on sale on my Nook, $1.99. They are having a Halloween sale, great titles! Just wanted to pass that info along. Debating about purchasing it.

message 73: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments Coraline is also available on Kindle for $1.99. Woohoo. Thanks for letting me know about the sale on Nook. I figured it would be the same for my kindle. Coraline may have to come before Stardust. I'm going to be traveling so I will be reading more on my kindle.

Good Choice. I'm still going to get Lightning by Dean Koontz in this month :-) Which will work for "Light" task and it is also the Dean Koontz Group Read so perfect.

I kept forgetting to check back in here since I must have deleted my last notification from this thread. We still have until November 30th to finish this Fall Reading Challenge. I am still planning to read Lightning next week - that will probably be my last book that I read for the Fall Reading Challenge. Here are the other books I read:

Task #1, Suicide Prevention: The Accidental

Task #2, "Light" : Lightning by Dean Koontz (to read)

Task #4, T-R-E-A-T in title: The Patron Saint of Liars, Truth and Beauty (which is also a memoir - it could work for task 5 as well)

Task #5, Memoir: Angela's Ashes

First saw this and thought of Stardust by Neil Gaiman :-)

Have you read ROOM? I saw the movie in the theater last Sunday and it affected me the way you describe this Promise of Stardust. It is a great film but I think one must prepare them for the emotional traumatization. It felt so real and I'm glad I had picked up extra napkins at the concession stand. I now have requested the book from the library.

message 93: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I read Room. I don't know if I can see the movie. The book was disturbing and beautiful all at the same time. Its one that has stuck with me for a long time.

I read Dead Time. Its on the last page of my TBR list. I decided to finally finish the Alan Gregory series. I've been delaying it because I know there are no more more books. I only have two more to read in the series. I am really going to miss this set of characters.

I haven't read Room but it's on my tbr-keep hearing that it's an amazing (although traumatizing) story. I'm a little nervous to get the book or even to watch the movie but I'll probably read it one of these days.

It has been a long time since a film hit me the way ROOM did. It might be a good idea to wait for the DVD so you can press "STOP" or "PAUSE" as needed. If you do decide to see the film, be sure to take tissues with you. If you forget to take tissues, get napkins from the concession stand or tissue from the restroom. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it through the whole movie, but I did, even though I felt like getting up and leaving at some points. After the movie was over I went out the nearest exit as quickly as I could so people wouldn't see I had been crying. It took me until the next day to fully get over watching ROOM. If you are emotionally sensitive - please know what you are getting in for. You will feel everything the characters are experiencing. It feels real. With that being said, I highly recommend the film and I will be reading the book next month.

The Alan Gregory series is significant to me because I live in the city the stories are set in and I've met the author twice. I never did read all the books because I wasn't introduced to the series until I moved to Boulder in 2006. I read them out of sequential order except for the last ones. Maybe someday I will read the whole series from the beginning, but I don't know when I'll get around to doing that :-)
