G.G. (ggatcheson) | 50 comments I'll try to explain the steps I take to do it myself. There might be easier ways though...
First, copy paste the text shown in (some html is ok) in your message. You'll return to it later. (I inserted space before image and after the last slash to make sure it would show here.)

< img src="http://www.goodreads.com/image..." width="40" height="100" alt="description"/ >

Now go to the picture

Right click on the picture you want to post and then go to properties.
Copy (to paste later) the address (URL). Now erase everything after the " like this:

< img src="" width="40" height="100" alt="description"/ >

Paste your new url between the now empty "".
Change the width and height size as to be of an acceptable size for this website. Delete the word description and write what you want instead.

Here's a full example done here:

< img src="https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/..." width="100" height="150" alt="Wes Craven"/ >

Now I'm going to remove the spaces before img and after the slash

Wes Craven

Hope this helps.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 50 comments The picture is a little small. If you want it bigger, just change the width and height. You may need to edit your post a few times to get it right.

Lea Beall | 5 comments I have tried over and over to post an image this way on my new Goodreads Blog and I can't get it to work.
I'm using an image from my facebook site. I get the link, but I've done exactly the above procedure and it doesn't work. Does it just not work with facebook images? I didn't change the size parameters. Does that matter?
What about an image from my own computer? How would I make that work?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 50 comments The image I posted was taken on facebook. I just tried it on a Goodreads' blog and it works.

One of the mistakes people often do is take the link to the facebook page. That won't work. You need the small link in the properties menu, not from the browser. For example, if you'd try it with your profile picture, the beginning of the url you'd copy paste would start like this: https://d.gr-assets.com/authors ( I deleted the rest but of course, you'd need it all to have the right picture.)

Another important thing is to make sure you don't have twice the www or the http. That's why in my example I remove everything before inserting the new url.

Also, make sure you don't insert spaces where they don't belong. A space to many and it will not work.

Lea Beall | 5 comments Hi G.G.
I tried it again and again!
When you say properties menu, where is that?
I clicked on the picture itself then went to options at the bottom of the page and the "Get Link" button and used what popped up. Is that the wrong link to use?
I pasted exactly what is in the suggested html code in the Formatting Tips box only I put the specific facebook photo link in and deleted the example link just like you said above.
That's what I tried before I posted here.
Maybe it is not meant to be! (Unless you have another suggestion. I think I'll stop wasting my time trying to post this photo).

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 50 comments You know what. I think you're right. I tried it with different pictures and if somehow facebook shows in the address it doesn't work. If the picture posted on FB comes from somewhere else, it works.

Now, if you need to post a picture directly in a thread, but you have nowhere else but FB to post it first, you can always upload it on your author page here on GR and use the 'properties' address from it. It will work.

Lea Beall | 5 comments Ok. Maybe I'll try that.
Thanks.
