The Lightning Thief

CHOOSE ONE:

not the books attached.. those are just examples..

I think that Riordan has the ability to write really entertaining books, but in terms of deepness and richness in plot/meaning/morals/vocabulary/concepts, Riordan doesn't have that much. I think his characters and villains are pretty flat.

Rowling has a more intricate world (note that she worldbuilt strongly for seven books where Riordan did a little worldbuilding but mainly took everything from Greek mythology), more developed characters, more varied scene types and plot elements, and just has a richer world and story in general.

What Rowling does that Riordan doesn't is worldbuild, develop characters by making them deep/have motives/have complex backstories/seeing them develop over time, vary the plot elements/structure, and just in general add more meat to the world and characters.
So therefore I think Harry Potter has a better story and is better written than PJ, though I think each are entertaining.

Harry potter. So much more complex and sophisticated .

Harry Potter. I hated Percy Jackson.

I hate Percy Jackson. So, HP

they are both good but harry potter is a great series were as percy jackson is good

I'm reading the Percy Jackson series (not Heroes of Olympus, because my sister read it and said it was terrible and I believe her), currently on the third book. It's pretty good so far, but not my favorite series.

The first book in Harry Potter was great. I liked it a lot. Afterwards, it went downhill. I remember reading the second book and thinking it was terrible. I'm going to read it again so I can figure out why people like or don't like it.

But please, people! Don't hurt people's feelings because their opinion is different than yours. There's no reason to get worked up about a book and end up hurting other people.

Ok I love both, but we don't need to insult either be issue we don't want to insult anyone's feelings

Harry Potter!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No doubt, the story is so much better and you connect with the characters more

Both of them are equally good. I believe there is no other way that I could answer this question. Both are awesome.

Between Percy and Harry, well that's a difficult one.
My personal opinion would have to be Harry Potter, cause later on in the Percy Jackson books, when they started the Hero's Of Olympus, it started to feel of course to me, and wasn't very focused, and it made me want to skip pages, but Harry Potter kept on track with everything, and it kept surprising you, so even though I'm a great Percy fan I got to go with Harry Potter.

Between PJ and HP, I would say HP because although both series are great, interesting, fantasy, and etc, I feel HP is more "fun" or interesting...

Harry Potter. I grew up with Harry Potter and I think that is why I like it better. Reading them as a child, I felt as though I was growing up with them. I did not have that experience with Percy Jackson because when I started reading it, I was much older. Both series are amazing in their own unique ways, but the memories of growing up with Harry Potter make it the better of the two to me.

I love both the book series. I think both have been written differently and are unique in their own way

Does both count as an answer? :) I think both book series is as just as good as the other. There is no easy picking which is better based off story line and both authors are accomplished writers. It would be near impossible to pinpoint which is specifically better.

Percy Jackson was written in a year, and had a spur-of-the-moment whatever-is-most-fun-to-write-at-the-time style. It is very straightforward and simple.

J.K. Rowling took 5 years to plan before she wrote the first HP book and used a variety of clever and carefully chosen storytelling methods. One for example is misdirection, which I am reading a book on (you can actually go very far with it). Her methods of telling a story are ingenious and taken for granted. Also, she has a solid moral foundation and themes that come into play. Her characters were more diverse in personality, and complex. Her world was vaster, and also more complex. Rowling is a revolutionist in story telling. Percy Jackson is fun, but nothing new and relies more heavily on cliched stereotypes (it had to be said). There really is no depth beyond the flashy sarcasm and action. Percy Jackson very much only appeals to the senses, and is skin deep. There is little to satisfy the moral sense or challenge your thinking. You will not find books or college courses on PJ as you do for HP, which has intricacies that fascinate children and adults.

By far Harry Potter is the best written.
That's not to say everyone has to "like" it the best.

I think it can't be compared. Both series are completely different and something about Harry Potter is just so special and magical that I doubt another fantasy book will ever reach HPs level. I can't even describe what it is about Harry Potter, but it's just amazing and I think everybody should've read it and discovered this world J. K. Rowling created with her words.
But I also love Percy Jackson a lot and to be serious, I can still spend hours lying in my bed and imagining what it would be to be part of Camp Halfblood. I just love it.
Both series were a huge part of my life when I was a few years younger and I loved them both (and still do). I forced my younger sister to read them both and, yeah, she's also a fan now!

That is a very hard question because I am very much in love with Harry and Percy. Percy makes me laugh and Harry makes me feel brave, and magical. AHH! :(

Harry Potter 100%. I read both series for the first time in 4th grade (all the way through). I had been reading Percy Jackson, and as I was reading the last percy Jackson book, I discovered the HP series. I absolutely fell in love with it. I actually have never finished the final Percy Jackson book because I have never been able to get into it as much as I have with Harry Potter. I have re-read the harry Potter series a few times since then, and I have loved it just as much every time. As previous commenters have mentioned, everyone gets a different experience every time they read it, because you'll always notice different parts of the book each time you re-read it, and almost everyone can identify with at least one of the characters very strongly at one point or another. People will also choose their house, their wands, and it very much feels as though you are a part of the story. Also, so many people of so many different ages can love and connect with Harry Potter. I have had discussions about HP with anyone from 1st grade to my 76 year old Grandmother, and I have continued to love the series since first grade. That isn't to say I didn't enjoy Percy Jackson and think it's well written, but it hasn't stuck with me nearly as long.

Harry Potter provides a much more intimate experience in my opinion. When reading the books I felt as if I was attending Hogwarts myself. Figuring out which house I belonged to (Slytherin according to Pottermore) and deciding who would be in my group of friends. The Percy Jackson Series was entertaining but I was much more emotionally invested to the Harry Potter.

Harry Potter. It's just on a different level, honestly. Riordan wrote the Lightning Theif to appeal to children with a low reading level, which is great, but also limiting. There is less material you can cover. With Harry Potter, you find something new every time you read through it.

Also, Rowling ended her series nicely, while Riordan wrote Heroes of Olympus, which I hate for other reasons. They're meant to be YA instead of Childrens' but they're still written like Childrens' but longer. This to a very boring series. I only got past Son of Neptune. I know this is a different series, but it stills mars my view of Percy Jackson.

In my view, it is not our place to compare two completely different world-renowned books. They have both been a phenomenal journey for me. And I honestly can't put forward my judgement in their comparison. They are equally good. :)

Uhhh...that's actually a good question

I'll go with Percy Jackson but it's all really tied up because they're pretty much the same and both are well written. But, for some reason, Percy is my choice.

Harry Potter. It's so much more sophisticated. The humor is loads more intelligent and not as stupid.
