Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Hi Nola, I am from Tarpon Springs, Fl. We use to go through Chiefland on the way to Tallahassee when our kids were in college and grad school there.

message 11: by Nola (new)

Nola That is awesome. I like it here, but would prefer a state that has a bit cooler weather in the summertime. LOL I love fall and winter here though. :D

message 12: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments How long have you lived in Chiefland? I have lived in Pinellas County all but 8 years of my life when I was getting educated in Mass and then Calif. I loved both of those places but it was necessary to come back here afterwards. My husband cannot tolerate cold weather with his asthma or I would live elsewhere now.

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Hi David! I'm so happy about your recent election! Wish we could elect a peace advocate as the UK has done. Welcome to the group! As long as you like to read, you will always be welcome here!

message 17: by David (new)

David Videcette | 4 comments Thank you for the warm welome, Melissa. It is a pleasure to join the group. And yes - I love to read! Recommendations always warmly received.

message 18: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments What kind of books do you enjoy, David? Have you read any books by Greg Iles who is one of my favorite writers?

message 19: by David (new)

David Videcette | 4 comments I like books with clues along the way and a premise to solve. Which titles by Greg Iles do you rate? I haven't read him before.

message 20: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Iles writes powerful dramas based in the American South, Mississippi. I recommend his all of his work but his early books, True Evil, Turning Angel and Blood Memory got me hooked. He has an interesting background that you can read about by googling him. His books are different from any others I have read and I get them from the library as soon as a new one comes out. I hope you enjoy him!

David Videcette | 4 comments 'Natchez Burning' sounds interesting. I like books that teach you about issues and places.

message 24: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Wow, that is quite a distance! Is Adelaide on the water or inland? I am from Florida on the west coast on the water. Tell us what you enjoy reading!

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments David wrote: "'Natchez Burning' sounds interesting. I like books that teach you about issues and places."

It is his most recent book.

message 26: by Jackmeister (new)

Jackmeister | 3 comments Adelaide is on the coast, if you were looking at Australia I'd say it was bottom, middle.
I read lots of genres, crime, horror, mystery, adventure, etc, I love Michael Connelly, John Sandford, Robert Crais plus loads of others. I read Natchez Burning to, I loved it but it was soooo long.

message 27: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Have you read any of Greg Isles early books? I just love them and was addicted from the first one. You and I have similar taste in books.
I would love the opportunity to visit Australia and New Zealand but I do not think it's going to happen. Too long a voyage!

message 28: by Thomas (last edited Sep 15, 2015 12:26PM) (new)

Thomas (tom471) Welcome new members. Australia is on my wish list. I like Michael Connelly, Dana Stabenow, Adrian McKinty and Elmore Leonard among others.

message 34: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Hi Kev, Hi Mike! What a diverse group we have! I love it! Welcome and please share what kinds of books you enjoy reading. My favorite author is Greg Iles, who really fits few categories other than Southern mystery/drama.

message 35: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 2693 comments Hi Mellisa,

I haven't read any of Greg Iles books. I will have to look into them, though I do know a little something about the author. I read that Greg Iles suffered a very tragic auto accident resulting in Greg losing his arm. Terrible. The good news is, he is still writing. Good for him.

message 36: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 2693 comments By the way, I am a big Michael Connelly, Mark Gimenez, Joseph Teller and Scott Pratt fan.

message 37: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Michael,
I believe he lost the lower part of one leg which allows him to continue playing in a band. He is just a fabulous writer. I have been hooked from his first book. Very different style.

message 38: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments I love that Iles crosses genres and his books are unpredictable. He has been compared to Grisham but that is just wrong other than that they are Southern. I love Connelly and Gimenez and now you have given me two more to check out. Thank you! Any particular recommendations to try first from Teller and Pratt?

message 39: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 2693 comments Pratt writes the Joe Dillard series. I believe there are seven books. I would suggest starting at the first book. With regards to Joseph Teller, give, The Tenth Case, a try. All their books are on the groups bookshelf, i believe. Enjoy the reads. Let me know how yiu like them.

message 40: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Will do! I ordered the first 5 Pratt books from Amazon for my Kindle. I feel so dumb! I had no idea Teller was a writer. Will head out to the library to put him on my reserve list which is pretty long! Thanks so much Michael!

message 41: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 2693 comments My pleasure. I think you will enjoy Teller's books. He use to be a DEA agent and attorney. Uses his prior cases as reference to write his books. Very interesting and realistic. Enjoy.

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Certainly did not know that! I went to college in SoCal back in the dark ages. I wish you all could get some serious rain! I am so fearful for my buddies in Marin who say the fires are just 100 miles north of them. It is so scary on the whole west coast right now.
I did go to the library and request The Tenth Case

Hi, Melissa. Wel, rain is finally in the forecast starting tomorrow. I read in the paper today, that El Nino is coming and is the second strongest on record. Hopefully, that will put a dent into our drought.
