lord of the flies, Buddy Read! :) [[Oct. 2022. ]]

I came across these quotes from Sophie Kinsella's Romantic Comedy and Chick-Lit books:
https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...
I'm sharing them here because:
(a) a few of them contained pretty good messages, which reinforced what I said earlier in this thread:
"Most aspirational characters in fiction are "real but better but not perfect" people, who learn from their mistakes and find a better way of handling life and relationships over the course of the story.
If you wish to learn from such characters or adopt some of their qualities then do it to improve yourself and do it regardless of the genre. Good things can be learned from anyone, anywhere, and at any time."
(b) a few made me smile :-)
By the way, if anyone is interested in reading her books then I suggest they start with Twenties Girl. I thoroughly enjoyed it and gifted a copy to my mother. One day I passed her room and heard her laughing. I peeked inside. She was reading this book!
PS: Hope you guys enjoy your buddy read :-)

All these excerpts are hilarious :D thanks for sharing. I like your recommendations and the little stories that accompany them <3
Plus why is this group active at the crack of dawn lol.

Sorry Bilal, I was just responding to Zarshal's comment about needing something light to read. But you're right. I should have initiated a separate thread for light-hearted book recommendations and shared about the P.G. Wodehouse and other books there. I'll delete my comment right away and try to be more careful next time. Sorry again :-)

You're welcome, Hifza, I'm glad you enjoyed the excerpts. I've deleted them, but I'll try to repost them in a separate thread when I get a chance :-)

Thank you Zarshal :-) We're flying to Pakistan in a few days, so I'm busy with all the last minute chores that crop up in these situations. Lol. But I'll try to get around to it once I'm back in Germany :-)

You don't? Damn I musta been doing it wrong 😔

Because we've got kewl international members like Ramla and Zarshall 😎
And also some of us other plebs have terrible terrible sleep cycles

Have a great trip! 🌹

I'll second that ,
Ramla's done the work of 10 mods this past month , not to mention keeping the group afloat during inactive periods , so kudos

Bilal isn't participating 😔. Ebook moment
Anyways @Jogi how is the buddy read going?
Why hath our divine bridge troll left us

I blame our wildly screwed up sleep cycles.

@everyone I was thinking of getting the book from library since I tried reading the ebook but couldn't stay engaged. But going to the library is a hassle so I didn't :p

Oh buddy , I'll say.
Jogi was the first person to welcome me ( and I say that in the loosest sense ) to the group back in 2016.
He picked his moment alright 💀 and he struck gold
The word cringe doesn't do justice to that memory. I made a fool of myself and then some.

Thank you, I hope you're also having a great trip :-)
@Uzair
@Hifza
Thank you, I love interacting with everyone in this group :-) I might not be able to participate much in the coming weeks, but I'll try to become active again once I'm back home. InshAllah.

I'm requesting a hard copy from bookeveofficial as well. Waiting for the delivery. Can barely focus on reading when I'm on the laptop. Already juggling dozens of commitments, better to read when I'm off every device.
I just re-read the Preface though. I had forgotten that Fernando Pessoa himself presumed to be a "Psychologist" who ran into Bernardo Soares (the character who wrote the book -- in actuality, just one of Pessoa's heteronyms) and published "The Book Of Disquiet" in lieu of Soares; much alike Max Brod did with Kafka. Interesting parallel.

Sure , we'll add it to the book pool I guess :P
Jogi wrote: "bookeve has officially ghosted me and readings has pending orders since February. Safe to say just move on to the next book."
We could do that or alternatively there's always epub?

Not sure how many are up for epub. But true, this is not a book you wanna miss out on easily.

Should we just move onto something else? Better than not reading at all.
We can revisit the book of Disquiet at a later date ( of when book eve gets their proverbial sh*t together )

Apologies for the late comments , busy with mdcat but nonetheless will read whatever everyone decides on

Anyway August has passed us by , let's make
Notes on the Underground the September buddy read
As for a schedule no one is ever really able to follow it lmao so let's all go at out own pace and periodically ( every 2-3 days ) share our thoughts
All in favour?
