on avg each chapter is 20 pages, some are smaller than that and some are longer so if someone is lagging behind he can easily cover it.

Zarshal Saeed (zarshalsaeed) | 814 comments Apologies. Classes here too. Plus I’ve started on this German lesson and it has cut my reading time drastically. I’ll try and finish up soon. If you’re up on reviewing it go ahead and do it since it’s a reread for me and therefore no spoiler issues here xD
I would absolutely love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this amazing classic!

All those who are done with the book already can share their views about it.

message 4539: by Zarshal (new) - rated it 3 stars

Zarshal Saeed (zarshalsaeed) | 814 comments This book reminds me of a clichéd this-or-that question: Beauty or brains?

I always thought you could have both. But now I believe that you, in fact, can’t have both beauty and brains. You’ll always have one on the cost of another. And as long as you’re choosing, why not choose something that’s going’s to last, right? It’s a pretty straightforward answer if you come to think about it.

But then again, if you’ve already chosen beauty over brains, how’re you going to think about it? xD

message 4540: by Misbah (new) - rated it 3 stars

Misbah Ahmad (ma__ch96) Well for me it was more than just a mere moral story, it's a perfect reflection of Oscar Wilde's mastery over language as well as his love for some renaissance themes. The way he has described them elite hypocrite appearances studded with jewels of the world yet so hollow inside has left me in awe!!! And these lines from last chapter has summed it all for me:
""the mirror of his soul that he was looking at. Vanity? Curiosity? Hypocrisy? Had there been nothing
more in his renunciation than that? There had been something more. At least he thought
so. But who could tell?…No. There had been nothing more. Through vanity he had spared
her. In hypocrisy he had worn the mask of goodness. For curiosity’s sake he had tried the
denial of self. He recognised that now""
as one can tell from this review I absolutely Loved it!!!!

Aakash (mistyanon) | 5393 comments Mod
For me, this book is about young age and young age decisions that we make in emotions, and later we regret them. Of which the main decision the wisdom vs beauty.
As Henry says, The advantage of the emotions is that they lead us astray, and the advantage of science is that it is not emotional.
Henry is a man of pleasure and has said many disturbing things and on the other side Dorian is like gel can be molded in any way by influence and he is so empty and does not know what he wants.

Lara Zuberi (larazuberi) | 571 comments Loved this book. It’s Oscar Wilde’s only novel, I believe. Captivating and very different from any other book I’ve read. One can read it as a story, or as a work of philosophy—either way it’s power is bound to mesmerize the reader. Glad to see others reading and appreciating this work of art. Excellent choice!

Zarshal Saeed (zarshalsaeed) | 814 comments Is it a coincidence that I got a sudden urge to catch up with this lost circle of friends I made on the anniversary of this thread's desertion?
It's been a whole year since someone posted in this group.
Hey everyone. How're you all doing? Busy I bet. But do get some time out of your busy schedules to catch up.
It's weirdly cathartic. And nostalgic.
Hope to hear from y'all soon.
Ciao

Hullo,
Not sure if you'd remember me , I haven't commented in a while but I do check in every month or so . It's always a bittersweet affair. Everyone has long since moved on and that's saddening but at the same time I'm reminded of the good memories and friends I've made here.
Goodreads was my first ever social media presence and there's something very nostalgic to me about the message board style of it
It was a good time to be alive.

Zarshal Saeed (zarshalsaeed) | 814 comments Hey again!

Ofcourse I remember you xD you’re the first ever person I actually talked to in this group. Actually I think that was jogi but you know how that interaction goes.

Any way, I didn’t open my Goodreads for like 7 8 months and then I did the other day and I felt so sad about this thread being inactive for so long. We’ve had so much fun here! And I couldn’t help but comment. And well, no one replied after that but I knew someone would some time.

You’re right about the nostalgia. I think every one of us has made some good memories in this place.

I hope when we’re all done adulting in real life, we’ll come back here again.

Haha it's nice to know I'm remembered around here lol. My first interaction was jogi too and he trolled me so bad. It's a really fond memory now XD.

I actually meant to comment a few days ago but my old email got deleted and goodreads wouldn't let me lol.

As for the nostalgia I think this was such a happy place because no one was ever negative here. Everyone always vibing for lack of better words. Even Genio for all his antics was our friendly neighborhood troll.

I'd love for this group to become active again. I've never quite found any place on the internet like it. Even the games were just text posts but so so fun. Not to mention Pakistani readers is where my passion for writing really took off

Man it really has come to a point where we’re reminiscing 😂

Come one people. Come back now. It’s time! xD
