I had sent the screenshot of our discussion about the 'Silent Child' to Sarah (the writer). The questions in that discussion were:
1. Why was Aidan obeying Jake like a good boy?
2. Why was Aidan being such an asshole to his mother? (Details on pg 67 of the same thread)

I don't understand the sequence of her answers. Following is what she tweeted back:

Wow, lot's of questions! :) 1. Jake was making the assumption Aiden would one day speak. Jake is therefore never safe while Aiden is alive.

2. Aiden has been bullied by one man for a decade. He finds it easier to obey strong orders from men than disobey him.

3. He's not an asshole. He's traumatised and afraid. When situations get aggressive he freezes up. Hope that helps. :)

Wow! The list is helpful! Now I have in mind which books the buddy read have read so far. Otherwise there are some books I was going to nominate and the buddy read has read it. Like My Lady Jane and Gone Girl. :D But I ended up with One of Us Is Lying because it's latest. :p
My first buddy read is Hitchhiker's Guid to the Galaxy. And I loved it!
