yes i have read RED QUEEN and enjoyed it, not much new but towards the end it really picked up and the ENDING was superb, looking forward to 2nd book.

Red Queen is an awesome books. I would suggest we make a buddy read of it next. :P

I just planned to put it asaide and look at the chapter index and realized that i was reading chapter 41. Now I will take a break for few days before picking up again.

But It just got better from so-so. The pacing is slow and characters are taking long to come out.

Laia is too much of a coward. And Helen should have more fitting attitude as her personality is ment to be bindass but she is blushing over nothing and so on.

It's a beautiful book and yeah laia is coward but I am at 33 and still waiting for laia to take the charge and reborn with shinning character but she is still going forward by chances and with the help of other characters.

And as far as next buddy is concerned, we will talk about it after 20 and will start in the next month. :)

i kind of understand the character progression .Laia is coward but she has lived in most harsh environment. always has been forced to be careful. someone had to be her brother never really was careful one and helen is only girl in school full of boys and is into her best friend. pretty sure that is some reason to get riled up . i kind of like the flaws in the characters. at least they are not perfect heroines they are going to grow...

I end up reading all the chapters in the end, after trying not to read further. But as I finished the story seem to be young and nowhere near the end. Looks like the second book will deliever all the intense happenings that this book built up the stage for.

(I wasnt sure if i could get the time to read this book so I make use of the time available to finish it before i ran out of time.)

I loved the world created and the potential packed characters and their contribution to the story. Although it was difficult to digest some character base actions but I am hoping to get the reasons in the second book. Every character develops or come into light along the story.

Yeah that's also true #zarish laia is a delicate girl always protected by family and all that and now suddenly she is prone to the most harsh environment.
Where as helene is grown up among soldiers raised by soldiers with the same purpose of being a solider. So she is an experienced and lived among boys so environment had an impact on her as well.

And I have finished the book now. I didn't want to finish it but I wanted to read more and its over now.
Well I think Laia thought, she is coward but she wasn't actually. She was logical and she was brave enough to face black cliff for her brother, without having much to hold on.
It was awesome fantasy, and it's writer Saba Tahir looks like have an Asian or maybe Pakistani background, anyone know where is she from?

Hehe yep it was amazing that laia was shown as weak but now as I was waiting for her to take the charge, she did. Looking forward to book two.
Anyway she was selfish in the beginning and fearful If she wasn't then why ghuls hunted her for so long but the thing is she learned the lesson for inspiration from the people who did sacrifice for her.

I am done with the book as well cause I have some work for a few days and it was hard to stop and gone read was damaged for me by traveling as well.

How many of you are still reading. You will enjoy the last few chapters whole a lot. :)

I think there were clues of her bravery here and there. Like her straight walking posture not hunched shoulders as other slaves who were afraid and aware of their surrounding. Laia mostly seem to be clueless of the danger around her that made her vulnerable and in-danger of getting discovered as a spy too, as Elias suggested her to wear a cape to blend in.

hmm...you guys keep saying lia's weak but i didnt see that through out the book (except maybe at the first part)
she tries to convince a rebel group to save her brother, she agree's to go on an impossible mission that no one else has returned from,she agree's to spy on a woman who kills traitors in the worst way possible, she faces her parents killer day after day and then finally she still sneaks out of the castle, even when it could mean death for her. she would do anything to save her brother and she does everything to the extent of her power.
I cant see how she isnt brave....being scared doesn't mean a person isnt courageous, it just makes them human. (Also you would be insane not to be scared when facing half the things she faces...i would have pee'd my pants the first time I saw the commandent)

@Mimi, very convincing. There is contrast in characters, in what they are and what they showed. Laia, a sheltered vulnerable scardy cat, i would say, acts bravely. Helene a warrior, meant to outwit strong men ( in terms of bravery) on occasions acts less courageously especially with marcus, she should have beat the crap out of marcus as she is only female trained warrior. Yet she had all her friends worry about her. Only female, trained, and not a badass, this aspect wasn't convincing. On the other hand she did helped Elias every time needed so she is brave, and Laia, is gutsy.

As I typed all this it dawned on me that, both girls have brave and scary moments. :D Like ying yang.

Yea I am telling the same that laia was weak in the beginning because she was never prone to hardships and she had no confident over herself. And the voice that told her to move on, she always thought that it was darin. And last few chapters she realises that that was her own voice her own courage and her own soul. She got scratched and started to shine after it. And it was beautiful. As the title says An Ember in the Ashes which means she was as dead as Ashes both other things conspired to lit her to make her set on fire again. And now she is on fire at least she is ready to fight. She will become a full warrior in next book. Elias is gonna train her as he said it himself.
Now she seems like the heir of the lioness. The daughter of lioness the brave one. :)

@huma helene was strong and Elias only worried about her because Marcus was a wild beast. He will do anything to do what he wants. That's why he asked friend to take care of helene. And helene act different in front of Marcus only because there is something secret in them. Like helene went to attack him but he said something in her ear and she got numb and he kissed her. I hope we will learn that in the second book.

Yeah me too and there is something big like augurs may want a change. Maybe they want Elias and and want peace. And they are helping Elias ans laia so much. So second book and maybe it's a long series...
