Neil Schleifer | 3 comments Each year I give my class an independent reading assignment from a selection of YA books that I have purchased for a class library. This year my class load has tripled, so I am trying to beef up my library by acquiring about sixty more books. I am looking for suggestions that meet the following criteria:

- The novel cannot yet be a movie or have a Cliff Notes/Spark Notes analysis published. I want my readers to analyze a book's merits on their own.
- The novel cannot have adult, sexual content.
- The novel cannot contain graphic language.
- My students seem to truly enjoy historical fiction, adventures, journeys, and stories of personal growth as opposed to romance or spiritual/occult.

Some of my readers face struggles (learning and language disabilities) while others are "gifted and talented" so a cross-section of lexile ratings is fine. I appreciate all the suggestions. Thank you all in advance.

Nancy (nankay) | 4 comments I am unsure about the Cliff Notes/Spark Notes portion of this program, but you might try Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin (if you haven't already).
