Daniel Fatoba (dan_f) | 4 comments Hi, my name is Daniel. My novel is an urban fantasy called Queen of Blades, and is about a twenty-two year old woman called Titania who lives in London. It's the year 2042, and magic is known and embraced by humans, or 'averages'. Titania works as a Healer for the NHS, but becomes involved in a guild of vigilantes when terrorists attack London. (More of the synopsis on WattPad. Read it here: http://w.tt/1TLaLDG)

There is a very diverse cast of characters, some LGBT, and I tried to make the backstory of Titania as untypical as possible. There is also a magic system that is included in Wattpad

Um, the link appears to be broken. But I think I found the novel via the title and matching the synopsis to what you've posted here. There are a bunch of other Inkshares authors on Wattpad; have you checked out the "Let's Break Into Wattpad" thread over in the Opportunities folder?

Abigail and Autumn | 3 comments Hi we are Autumn and Abigail,
Our novel is The Guardians: The Veiled Hope.
In a time and galaxy quite distant from our own, two star systems – the Empire of an elite dictator, Netheran Hamer, and the Dorcini Kingdom - lie in a state of cold war that has rampaged for over a generation. While Hamer slowly but steadily has usurped and gained power over many of the surrounding systems, including the once glorious Renntian hierarchy, the equally powerful Kingdom of Dorcin holds one last vital power play that may change the tide of the cold war into a full blown, intergalactic battle waged to regain a semblance of democracy in the systems desecrated by the villain’s choke hold on humanity.

This power play; a secret weapon; a beloved “gem” that has been protected by the royalty of Dorcin under the strictest of vows kept to the once ally of their system and the fallen leader of Rennth is waiting to be revealed when the time is right and the need dire. Dorcin must wait for a pivotal moment to surprise Hamer’s forces with this weapon.

Meanwhile, Dorcin has worries of its own to meet - as its future ruler comes of age to lead, an age old tradition must be kept to choose the protectors of their future queen. Two young Dorcini will compete for the right and honor to become Guardians; elite bodyguards trained specifically in the art of combat and technology respectively to meet the needs of their war torn and scientifically advanced society. As the competition advances, two young women rise through the ranks to take their place in the final show of skill that will put them before the eyes of those they would swear themselves to protect, and onto the playing board of a vast and dangerous scheme to save or destroy their worlds.

It is quickly seen that these two young women are not merely what they appear to be, and hold deep secrets that may be their undoing, or the key to waging and winning the war for the side of right and freedom. Between them, their fellow Guardian initiates, and the secret weapon waiting to be unveiled, they stand a sliver of a chance against defeating the imperial and seemingly unstoppable forces of Hamer.

But it may be the only chance they have.

We are in the Top 5 in the Space Opera Nerdist Contest, Help us get to the top three and make our teenager fantasy, of becoming authors,a reality.

Courtney (clcraven) | 5 comments Hello!

I'm Courtney (C. L. Craven on Inkshares because I wish my parents had forgotten the ourtney part of my name) and my novel is Stranger Miracles. It's a fiction piece based on the lives of two sisters I know. Mina is a young mother from Istanbul who, with the help of her aunt, flees the country with her two year old son to get away from a very violent life with her husband. She arrives in the US to live with her estranged sister while she tries to rebuild a life and figure out who she is away from the constant fear of her husband.

The story has some pretty heavy issues, such as domestic violence and the trauma one goes through in the aftermath of that, but it's not laden with gory detail. Instead, the story focuses on how both women, Mina and her sister, Sarah, grow as they get to know each other, and the story is told from both perspectives.

Chapters 1 through 8 are currently available to read on Inkshares (my hope in posting so much of the book is that people will like it in its unprofessionally edited form and therefore would really like it should it get the chance to be professionally edited). You can find it at the link below and I hope you enjoy it!

Bret (1tbret) | 1 comments My name is Bret Starnes. I'm 40 years old and live in the suburbs of Minneapolis in Minnesota. I've been writing for most of my life, but this is the first time I've ever tried to get anything published.

My book is called Skyfade. It is the first book in a planned trilogy called Venus Incensed. Skyfade takes place in the future, after humans have spread out though the solar system and colonized it. The initial attempt to terraform Mars was a horrible disaster that led to massive loss of life. It was therefor used to smash into Venus and turn it into another Earth.

No Thousands of years later, Earth is trying to maintain it's control over the Solar System by force and politics while pirates from the Uranian system run amok.

Venus has something in place that slowly unfolds before Erik Helseth and his twin sister Erika, officers in the Venusian Protectorate. Pilots and bodyguards for Senator Lacy, their lives are turned upside down in just a few days.

Please read what I have posted here:

and let me know what you think. Or give me a pre-order and help me out. I will gladly accept any feedback or criticism. :)

Landon Trine (landontrine) | 6 comments Hi, I'm Landon Trine, author of Hiding Among the Stars: https://www.inkshares.com/books/hidin...

It follows two characters on concurrent paths, but from very different circumstances. Eya is a Searcher from the advanced Society looking for humanity's offspring (hiding colonies of people, makes sense if you read the book). Enki is a lowly human teen whose circumstances change his life dramatically. His parents are killed and the powers that be claim they can't find the killers. He takes matters into his own hands and finds out way more than he could have ever predicted.

Jason (atomicboywonder) | 44 comments Hey everyone!

My book To Live and Die in Avalon has under 40 days left in its campaign and 173 pre-orders left to go to get into Quill!

https://www.inkshares.com/books/to-li...

Without the pressure of the Nerdist contest I've had the chance to spend time refining the book, including retooling the first chapter to be more concise, action-oriented and a better entryway into the world. It's retro-science fiction mixed with sixties spy movies.

I'd appreciate any and all help, even just spreading the word! Feel free to reach out to me directly, offer feedback or reviews on my page or general moral support.

Thanks!

Christopher Huang (christopher_huang) | 73 comments Hi. My name is Christopher Huang, and my book is Murder at the Veterans' Club .

It's a classic detective story set in 1924 London, at a gentlemen's club for war veterans. The newest member, Patrick Benson, is found stabbed to death in the vault under the club, and it becomes clear that the investigating officer might not be as impartial as desired. So our hero, Eric Peterkin, takes it upon himself to quest after the truth. (He has dreams of playing the knight in shining armour, so "quest" is definitely the right word.)

The story also touches on PTSD, or "shell shock" as it was often called back then. It wasn't very well understood; people were only just discovering that it had nothing to do with head injuries.

You can also check out the other works I've just brought into the draft stage, to see where I plan to go after this novel: Best Man for Murder is the planned sequel, and Peterkin Investigates the Anthology is a series of short stories spanning Eric Peterkin's life from 1910 to 1982. (I have a ghost of an idea that I should set a final story in 2001, but it's too early to say anything about that as yet.)

Kelsey Rae | 87 comments Hello wonderful people,

For those of you who don't know my book Beyond the Code is down to it's final 40 days of the campaign with only 80 orders to go. So if you like fast paced action with a dash of supernatural abilities please check out Beyond the Code. Anything you could contribute from backing to project to providing feedback would be deeply appreciated. Here's a little blurb to get you hooked.

Beyond the Code is about a group of warriors with extraordinary abilities breaking away from being mere tools of battle and becoming heroes. They must find the courage and drive to face off against the full force of The Order they once followed to right the wrongs against them and change their world for the better. They will face cruel masters, heart breaking betrayal, and the truth behind an ancient shroud of secrecy that will shatter the very perception of their purpose.
This story combines a covert shadow war, high paced action, deep seeded conspiracies, and remarkable super powers. So if you want to immerse yourself in the death defying mission of Aurora and her comrades give Beyond the Code a look over.

Brian Guthrie (nidfar) | 19 comments Some insane part of me decided to jump into another contest, this time with an idea my wife and I have been working on for five years.

It's called After Man. It's Gattaca meets elements of Y the Last Man, or so fans have told me ( I haven't read the latter). It's a murder mystery with espionage and thriller elements set on future Earth where all men were wiped out at the end of the 21st century by a man made virus that mutates out of control. Females carry on the race using their own stem cells for fertilization.

All seems right in the year 2616 but under the surface something is not. Rumors of instability in the genome, a closely guarded government secret, are rampant as violent crimes, gone for centuries, have made a resurgence. An international team of experts head to a conference to discuss the way ahead. Observers expect fireworks among the delegates as teams supporting alternative methods for preserving the genome face off against the traditional status quo delegates who stand in the majority.

A lead scientist of one of these teams is found murdered, setting of an investigation that brings one detective face to face with the dark secrets of humanity, all leading to one question.

Can humanity survive After Man?

Michael Molisani | 3 comments It doesn't come easily or naturally me to talk about my own writing. So, if this seems terrible, or awkward, now you know why.

I've been writing for many years. I've published various short stories over the years, through the path of least resistance. Six years ago I started on a book called "Seeking the Elephant."

It is my sincere hope that you (my dear reader,) will not only want to read, but pre-order "Seeking the Elephant." In a world collapsed and broken, full of magic, ghosts, and gods, a particular witch named Maggi Lopez, seeks to protect her son's future, and the lives of those around her. She descends on a road trip across a stark and strange America, finding herself and regrets as she looks back at her life as a criminal, a lover, and mother. Introspection leads to a fight against her crimes, as well as chance to avenge herself and give her son a final gift: unmitigated victory.

I promise you will enjoy this book, and I hope you'll help me fight our way to 250 pre-orders! Read "Seeking the Elephant," on Inkshares today!

I am a fantasy/sci-fi author with my first debut fantasy novel Soulblade: Forgotten Souls currently selling pre-orders with 120 days remaining: https://t.co/VhWfvlYABD

Blurb:
Join Tari on her epic adventure through loss, chaos and turmoil as she fights to control her unsuspected powers and stop a God's destructive path to dominance in order to save the world of Vanharlm.

I have recently changed and revised the cover(s) to three of the books in the series (but only book 1 is ready and crowdfunding).

ABOUT THE BOOK

The story follows Tari, an elven princess, born within her woodland home, and with the death of her mother years past, she has grown into the heir she was meant to be. With her sudden visions of a strange man, an equally strange spirit and events of a great battle long ago, that no records or accounts have ever been recorded, except for a book which is found in her father’s possession. But her life is thrown into chaos as sudden events unfold after her abduction. Kidnapped by a group of mercenaries, she learns the wealth and knowledge of human magic and that her fate is tied to an ancient creature, which until recently, she had only known in stories.

And when Tasbi, Tari’s closest friend, follows closely in her footsteps to find her, she is immediately plunged into a city that is rife with murder and betrayal. Histories, myths and legends start to reveal themselves and the fate of the mysterious Soulblade lies within the hands of an unsuspecting assassin.

With Tari’s powers growing, she is soon thrust into the unknown world of human magic and she must learn to control her powers fast in order to protect her friends and loved ones from a malicious God bent on destructive dominance.

Joshua Griffith | 21 comments Hello I'm Joshua Griffith and I'm the author Of The Decaying Destiny of Rob the Zombie, a dark but humorous take on the zombie genre.

The story is actually from Rob's point of view and he takes you on a horrific journey in search of food, which is of course people, to help sate the hunger inside him. Being a zombie isn't all fun and games as Rob discovers that not only does he not recall his life as a living person but now suffers from not only the pain from the ravenous hunger that forces him to unwillingly eat people, but also the pains from being dead as his body continues to decay. He is a captive soul in a reanimated corpse and had no real control over what he can do.

Order here: https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-d...

I’ve decided to raffle off $25 Amazon gift card every time the preorders hit the 25 increments! All that have ordered their copy WILL be included in the first drawing and as an added incentive, any people that you do refer and they do purchase my book WILL grant you extra entries in subsequent drawings during my campaign, just have your referrals direct message me and to drop your name so you can get the bonus drawing. Your referral bonus will garner you the same amount of entries as your friends. For example, if someone your refer orders the Super Horde (Super Reader) which is worth 5 entries, then you will get 5 entries too!

Other ways to garner extra chances:
Depending on which level of purchase you will determine how many entries you can get and the system is as follows:

Zombies (E-book) = 1 entry!
Brain-Eaters (Paperback) = 2 entries!
Super Horde (Super Reader) = 5 entries!

I’m asking that you share this with your friends and other followers so that they may help me as I progress in Rob the Zombie’s story. I truly want to get this story published because Rob keeps threatening me that if I don’t get more orders, I’m next on his menu! I kinda love my brain and wish to keep it! Enjoy!

R.H. Webster (rh_webster) | 39 comments Hi, Everyone. I haven't been around much but I wanted to bump the visibility level for my most recent work.

My name is RH Webster, and I am the author of the space opera Lucky. Lucky is an interstellar adventure, following Cassandra "Lucky" Luckenbach as she tries to get back to Earth from a mining colony on a distant planet. She ends up working odd jobs around the colony before booking passage on the space freighter Rosebud and taking a position as a temporary replacement on the crew. Little does she know that by taking the job, she has placed herself in a situation more dangerous than any she has encountered before.

Lucky is the product of an enduring love for science fiction and too much country music on my radio. I envision this universe to be as down-to-earth as a science fiction universe can be, with old country music songs playing in the background in dive bars across numerous, gloomy planets. I won't say there's Wild Western justice to be had, but I will say that some authorities have been known to turn a blind eye to less-than-legal activities for the right price. It's a big universe where space travel is as affordable (and as safe) as flying on an airliner is for us.

I am trying to reach 750 copies - I would love to see this novel fully funded and ready step out into the world all grown up. If you can help support it, or have friends who can help support it, or know a guy in the cubicle next to yours who might help support it, would you mind clicking and/or sharing this link? www.inkshares.com/books/lucky

ALSO: I'm now running a blog! Since I love science fiction and most of my friends are getting tired of hearing how much I love science fiction, I've decided to turn that passion into blog posts. I am discussing the history, the definition, the themes and characters commonly found in science fiction, as well as weekly Required Reading posts to help broaden any horizons that desire it. (I may include a Required Viewing segment later, after it gains some traction). The blog can be found here for those interested: www.rhwebster.wordpress.com.

Thanks so much in advance for your attention and support! Happy reading!

EDIT: Edited like 1,000 times because I can't do HTML right. :(

Rick Heinz (crankybolt) | 72 comments Hey everyone. While I've largely been more active in the Slack Groups and on the Inkshares forums, I figured I would stop by here and go for a bump as well.

I'm looking to see if anyone knows people who are interested in Urban Fantasy. I'm trying to scrounge up a handful (like 3) orders so I can clear a threshold of orders before May 15th to get to 900 for The Seventh Age: Dawn

https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-s...

I'm willing to work with any other author and find people in my friends network that hits their genre. I.E. Pair readers up with the right book. I'm sort of on a push to get to 1000 readers. As they say, you have to fight tooth and nail to get them, and I'm 100% out of everyone in all of my networks. I've helped plenty of people reach their goals as well and I am finally done with my edits and in a spot to start trying to play match maker.

If anyone is interested, send me a PM on Inkshares or hit me up in any of the other channels. (Even leave a message here).

Thanks guys!

Then I wrote about veterans benefits which was self published on amazon, along with a book on the origins of religion. Both are moderately successful, but hard to market and put infront of people. So I read Abomination which i bought in a bookstore and discovered inkshares.

My new project is a zombie book, but different in a few aspects. First, its set in the Middle East, in order to use the constant violence and secterianism as a backdrop for people of different ethnic/religious groups to come together. Second, I'm trying to be as realistic as possible - real place names, facts about the poeple and places, ethnically identifiable names, real weapons and military units, etc. The language is going to be rough but real, people fleeing zombies in a war torn world aren't going to use polite laguage all the time. You'll note it ramps up during times of stress. Its meant to identify with real people and to emulate real emotion.

Thus far I'm at about 30 orders, 16 recommendations, and 81 followers. And just over two months to figure out how to get from there to at least Quill. There are currently 4 chapters up, so please take a look at it and help support the cause if you should find it worthy. Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Christopher Johnson | 12 comments How about Borehole Bazaar:A Vow Unbroken? I really dig this book from Kendra because its not a bunch of fluffy "eveeybody is ok" kind of stuff. Its deep, and even though it uses elves and other fantasy creatures to tell the tale, its a study in surviving in a world that, inherently, isn't fair. The situations where things just seem to 'work out' for the characters, in the face of logic or realism, is absent. This is REAL, and gritty, and granular. Things just are hiw they are sometimes, and its a fight to get back up. A dirty, nasty, hard as heck fight. And that's what thus book is about.

Amanda Orneck (amandaorneck) I'm sure I'm in the thread up there somewheres, but in case people haven't seen Deus Hex Machina I wanted to reach out to the new people in the community about my cyberpunk novel. I am three orders away from 300, on my personal journey towards reaching 750.

Can anyone help out with an order or three?

Joseph Parcell | 6 comments Hi, I'm Joseph Parcell, and my novel is called Blue Water.

This is our second shot at getting Blue Water published on Inkshares. The first was done during the very first Nerdist contest, and was very hastily done. The book was originally a screenplay that I planned on filming, but after having my daughter, I realized would have to be shelved for a while. Then Nerdist brought me to Inkshares, and I decided to convert it to a novel.

This time, we're ready for a full campaign. The book itself is actually finished. I hope you all get a chance to read it.

Christopher Johnson | 12 comments Hey Everybody. I've been having a pretty good few days, 10 orders in about 2 or 3 days but that still only has me up to 83 orders and only 13 days left to fund. I'd really like to see if I can get a few more folks to hop on my bandwagon. My book, Seven Days Dead is a military style zombie thriller set in the Middle East, specifically it starts in Jerusalem. Why did you set it there, you may ask. Well, I'll tell you. I want to use the vast and rich history of the area, the geography and architecture, and above all the strife that is rampant in that area.

There is so much that can be done with just this small part of the story. Add in a zombie apocalypse and meld it with a little Black Hawk Down, and you have Seven Days Dead.

The reader could literally go on Google Earth or Maps and follow along with the protagonists, you can look up and get a detailed history on each and every place, military unit, weapon system, and town along the way. If you were to google the last name of the main character, you would find that it is ethnically identifiable with his heritage. The decisions, mistakes, plans, triumphs, training and insight of the characters are real and believable.

This book has gotten 29 recommendations, 5 reviews, and was named a Staff Pick - and yes members of the staff have ordered copies (in some cases, multiple copies) so please check it out and support my project.

Christopher Johnson | 12 comments Good Saturday to you all! I just got a look at Terminus by Jaye Milius and I'm really impressed. The concept is definitely unique and the book is good enough thst it was picked by the Nomad and CEO Syndicates as well as being a Staff Pick. Its a great book and it only has 22 days left. 100 orders needed to get published, totally doable. Please check it out and support it here https://www.inkshares.com/books/termi...

Joseph Parcell | 6 comments My name is Joseph Parcell, and my novel is called BLUE WATER.

It's the story of a young woman, diagnosed with schizophrenia, who has been plagued with hallucinations her whole life. Told from her point of view, she tells the reader of the little girl in purple pajamas she's come to know as "Carrot" who she believes is trying to tell her something important. As she's finally beginning to make strides to improve her life, does she burn everything down, stop taking her medication, and follow Carrot into madness?

We're currently funding at Inkshares. Please follow BLUE WATER and tell your friends. Thank you.

Matt Adams | 1 comments Nice to be a member of the community.

My name is Matthew Adams and my novel is titled The Titan in the Window. The story takes place during the Second World War and chronicles the life of a young, Jewish telepath who is kidnapped and forced the newly-synthesized drug, LSD. She is spirited away to neutral Switzerland (also the origination point of LSD in 1938) where, under the influence of this hallucinogen, her dreams solidify into the real-world horrors of the war engulfing the continent around her.

The project is currently up as an idea, with only a prologue uploaded although the entire novel is completed in draft form on my computer and elsewhere. I will put up a first chapter in addition to the prologue here in the next few hours.

Audrey Carroll (audreytcarroll) My name is Audrey and my novel is "Devils in the Valley." It's got witches, sarcasm, sexual tension... a lot of fun stuff to read. Chapter 1 is up on the page, and so is a video of me talking about the book. I'm entered in the Geek and Sundry Fantasy contest, so if you could pre-order or talk about it to your friends who might be interested, I'd be much obliged. I'm only up to 9 pre-orders after a week of very active promotion, so any little bit would help. Thanks!

Elizabeth | 2 comments I'm Elizabeth and my book, The Realm of Verilius, has just finished beta reading. Being part of the G&S contest is exciting and scary for me. I've never put anything I've written out in the public eye and I'm not quite sure of how to reach a broader audience than just my family and friends (who don't seem very supportive at the moment).

My three beta readers loved the book which makes me feel like it could have a place with the fantasy readers out there. No matter what happens though, I'm proud of my book!

message 149: by Ryne (new)

Ryne | 3 comments Hi everybody! I'm Ryne, my book is called Through the Ghost and while there aren't any ghosts in said novel, it's inspired by one of my favorite songs of the same name. The novel is actually a space opera/sci-fi adventure story about family, loyalty, and sacrifice. It's highly character driven, I've seen and read enough stories about saving the galaxy, I wanted to write a story where the only things at stake are the characters and the consequences of their actions.
Check out the first four chapters on the site: https://www.inkshares.com/books/throu...
