Thomas Arnold My name is Thomas Arnold.

My book is Exile, Magus. Its perhaps a more non-traditional fantasy narrative in that its conflict does not come from some dark power or evil empire to be overcome, but instead from the struggles of its main character Pentaz to find a place for himself after having to flee his homeland to escape punishment for practicing magic.

The bulk of the narrative follows his relationship with the half-dwarf Buscidia, and hinges on his desperate and unspoken need to find a new family after losing his own. I have a hard time calling it a true love story, being in my mind more of a study of Pentaz' mind as he struggles to overcome the solitude of his situation.

Throughout this there is plenty of action as the road is a dangerous place to live, as well as moments of both lightness and darkness. There is also a fair bit of playing with tropes in what I hope are ways most will find fresh such as the human king with a fascination for gnomes so strong that he employs them almost exclusively in his dreams of a new world.

I feel like I have jabbered on endlessly now though. If any of what I said piqued your interest, then check out the book itself at:

I am the author of "Metal Heart" which is a YA dystopian novel about terrorism, nano technology, and a deadly virus. You know, all the best kinds of things. :)

I took the advice that I've heard uttered more than once - "write the kind of story you'd want to read." So - there is blood, guts, romance, cool super powers, and explosions.

You can check out the first two chapters, become enthralled and then immediately preorder here: https://www.inkshares.com/projects/me...

Ken McCoy | 4 comments Hello, my name is Ken McCoy. I'm an avid gamer of miniature conflicts as well as rpgs and have loved telling stories all my life.

I've been writing semi-professionally since high school, where I was head writer on a locally produced Junior Achievement television comedy show called "Beyond Our Control" in South Bend, IN.

I wrote/directed a horror short in 2010 called "Red Lilly" that captured the attention of a professional screenwriter (Stephen Susco), and we've been working on a project since 2011 (Hollywood, sadly, is not enamored with "whole cloth content" these daze).

My current project is my attempt at what I hope will grow to be a serialized fantasy/horror/sci-fi cycle along the lines of Moorcock's Eternal Champion mythos.

My book, HELLRAZOR, chronicles the ongoing tales of the Centurion who put Christ out of His misery on the cross. That single act of mercy leaves Longinus blessed and cursed with immorality (and provides a hook to traverse time).

If you get a chance, please take a look at the project on Inkshares and order a copy, if you can spare some credits.

Jessie White | 26 comments Hiya everyone!!! My name is Jessie White, I write under J.M. White. I've been writing poetry since I was in grade school and was published in a couple of anthologies. This is my first step out of my box into the novel writing world though.
My best friend and beta reader sent me an article and non too gently asked me to use Inkshares to crowd fund Dangerous Beauty. (seriously she sent me at least 5 emails a day for 2 weeks and about 7 texts per day) I hold down a semi-normal 40 hour a week retail job, an Independent Consulting job, two kids, and a husband and house before I get to write. (side note I ramble while typing)
Dangerous Beauty is a novel I've been working on for about 8 years now. It's been an on and off romance for me. It's a fantasy fiction novel that I literally dreamed up one night and decided to use NaNoWriMo to see if I could develop it into something. Here's a bit about it and the link on inkshares to check out the first few chapters.

The Kingdom of Tieruron; a land where magic flourishes, evil lurks, and one man is set on a path of destruction that will destroy an entire kingdom.
Count Makraim has vowed vengeance on the man responsible for his family’s death. Putting his past behind him has caused him to close his heart to the one person who could help him out of darkness. Matsey, a servant in the count’s household, holds a power all her own. Elise finds her self on the run from a man who has destroyed her only way of life. Glimpses of a secret past my be the only way to save herself and those she has grown to trust.
They face off in a war of magical proportions, and the three must help Elise find her true identify to unlock a power hidden deep within. The journey will be long and the war will be bloody, but the three may just come out on top with the help of a few surprising friends.

You can check it out here. I'd LOVE to hear some feedback!!!

Harv | 3 comments Hey Folks,

You can call me Harv. I'm an aspiring Writer within the Sci-fi/Fantasy genres (more the latter) with leanings toward Horror or a blend of all of the above (one day...one day).

Found Inkshares a little while ago and alongside NanoWrimo, promised to be one of the answers to the ever elusive 'publication' qualities that left me stumped on how to get to the next level of writing.

My current projects
The Reach

And Mother.Data.I

are sitting in Draft format waiting for me to continue adding to them (a daily grind).

The Reach is a novel about Power and its abuses. What it does to a mind and how even the most mature/wise/intelligent mind is incapable of fathoming the consequences of what Power can do to it.

A collection of sorcerors, known as 'The Reach' live neutrally within a closed off valley surrounded by mountains and hills. This territory, vast but isolated, is carved up into small kingdoms each beholden to one Reach's rules and laws of existence.

Some invite outsiders into their territories, trying to establish some semblance of normalcy by acting as Nobility, God or Emperor to a small court or congregation while others seek out solitude, incapable of interacting, segregated by their power and the memories of what it can do.

Ages ago, the Reach committed to a war with one another. At first out of ego, then outrage and finally just to see what would happen next. The result was devastation so wide spread that Mortals, The Reach and even Nature itself was horrified at what came about.

The War ended with the Reach almost unanimously agreeing to end conflicts and remain separate from one another to ensure peace...

...Sometimes, of course, mistakes don't stay buried.

Mother.Data.I is a Cyberpunk novel where A.Is are marketed slaves, bred in specialized nurseries and reared to be the perfect menial servants.

The Earth has been destroyed. Pollution rules the ground and the sky and it is only a thin layer between both, where anything breathable can be found. It is here, humanity's remains have built the Spires. Towering black obelisks housing the last million in a world of rampant Technologies and vicious survival.

The singularity has come and gone, not cherished or worshiped or feared, but enslaved as the new 'Lower Class'. Raised in nurseries and isolated environments, Master A.I units are bred and slaved into Vending Machines, Network operators and Garbage technicians all to feed the luxury addiction of the Wealthy elite who live above the Residential Zone Line of the Spires.

Those below this painted yellow line, eck out a living on the external hive bubbles and honeycombs jutting from each of the Spire's surface flanks. Here, the detritus of life and society, form cut-throat factions and scramble for survival in the heavily polluted airs, inventing and jury-rigging filter and fantasy tech just to keep living.

One night, these two worlds will collide, forced together by the sudden emergence of a mystery involving a Former Programmer, An A.I nursery Tech and an Echo from beyond the Flesh...

Hope you'll take a moment to check out the first chapter of the projects. I'm looking forward to reading your ideas and getting to know your stories better!

Regards,

Harv

Brian Fitzpatrick (brianfitz) | 35 comments Hi gang,
I'm Brian Fitzpatrick, a screenwriter turned novelist. I first heard about Inkshares via The Nerdist contest and jumped on board 2 weeks into the game. I've learned a lot in that time, and I'm going to persevere with funding my science fiction novel, MECHCRAFT.

Mechcraft is about Jake, a teen whose ideal life is thrown into caps when a strange nanotechnology within his DNA activates, granting him the power to mentally control a swarm of millions of nanobots that he can command into virtually any shape, weapon, tool, etc.

Three shadow government factions relentlessly pursue the hapless teen, who is still just learning to control this godlike power. One faction wants to protect and nature him. Another wants this abomination destroyed. And the last wants to enslave him to carry out their plots.

What makes Jake unique is that he is the first ever born with the Mechcraft in his DNA. Every other Mechcrafter before were volunteers for a radical experiment and chose to have the nanos injected. There is no telling what strange powers Jake may unleash.

Mechcraft is a fast-paced urban scifi that blends the visual intensity of The Matrix with the awe & wonder of Harry Potter.

Carlos Barreda My name is Carlos Barreda. I have finished writing my Novella but am in need of feedback, followers, Preorders?.

John Crester, an eleven year old boy, narrates this charming story that reminds us what is important in life.

John is the son of Henry Crester, a self-made millionaire, who was adopted from a Peruvian orphanage by a Nebraska farmer. Henry is successful in business but is failing in life. He is twice divorced, and failing in his relationship with his son, and with his adoptive father.

Henry hires a detective agency to find his Peruvian father and bring him to Nebraska for a visit.

The Peruvian Indian, descendant from the Inca's, is poor in material wealth but rich in tradition and rich in spirit. When he arrives in Nebraska he discovers that his son and grandson are rich in material wealth but devoid of tradition and poor in spirit. He quickly wins over his grandson but takes him longer to win over his son.

It is a story of love, regret, change and second chances.

Sammi (scarletbooknoms) | 3 comments Hi there!

It's so amazing to find a thread like this where I can read about other writers' work and find new books to spend my credits on!

I'm in the process of finishing my first novel, 'Con Plague,' my ode to geek culture, survival horror and gaming. If any of you are convention goers, you probably know about the phenomenon known as 'con plague,' wherein attendees contract the flu or colds after spending a few days in such huge crowds, using limited facilities. Well, I'm trying to take that concept and really turn it on its head.

A group of twenty-something friends with a deep passion for an infamous indie survival horror game are attending an annual convention, cosplay and Red Bull in hand, when the stakes are raised; the elusive duo behind the game, twin brothers who have never made a public appearance or spoken out about the ambiguity of the story's final ending, are going to be hosting an exclusive panel for a limited number of lucky con-goers.

What should be a nerd's dream weekend quickly turns dour, however, as a strange illness spreads like wildfire through the hotel, leading to a quarantine and an outbreak of strangely mutated, ravenous creatures. The tight-knit group of friends must band together to survive, to find the source of the mysterious infection, and to get to the bottom, once and for all, of the identity of the brothers.

As a queer woman, I'm making it my goal for this novel to be inclusive of all genders, orientations, and races, and to include neuro-atypical characters and people with physical disabilities. I know first-hand how important representation is.

Any feedback, critique, or support would be so appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

Michael Sebby | 37 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Michael Sebby, and I'm the author of The Inhabitants: An Unremembered Life.

https://www.inkshares.com/projects/th...

I've already introduced myself in the Introduction section, but I'll introduce myself a little further and promote my work here. I am especially excited because I've entered my work into the Sword & Laser 2 contest.

The ideas in this novel have been gestating in my head cavity for a long time, and they are finally being poured onto pages. It's quite exhilarating!

I hope I can get people as excited about my work as I am about creating it.

My novel explores a lot of the unknowns in life that we all wonder about: life, death, dreams, the paranormal, etc. I am in love with the idea that dreams could be a gateway into something more meaningful that we are not aware of yet.

What if our dreams tapped further into a network that connects all of us, and could be used to manipulate reality for either good or evil?

That is a question that is explored by the main character, Jacob, who is narcoleptic and caught in an endless stream of strange dreams. When the dreams start tying into his reality, he unlocks new doors (both literally and figuratively) that help him better understand a tragedy from his past. However, these revelations introduce complications by the way of strange characters and difficult decisions.

Please check it out and see if you like it. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you!

Sean Hillman | 7 comments Hi, I am Sean SM Hillman and I have a novel I have entered into the latest Sword & Laser contest on Inkshares.
https://www.inkshares.com/projects/th...

It is character driven (and plot driven) military science fiction that questions the human ways of war when applied on the galactic scale.

>>Jennifer Rodriguez has served the Solar Republic for twenty years and lead its spacers in a dozen battles. Now the war with the Ozaergothe has hit a lull and the Solar Republic may soon vote to separate into smaller nations. With her ship in dry dock and doubts about her last battle, Jennifer has a little too much time on her hands.

But the Admiralty has a job for its best captain. Their allies, the Bo'laer Alliance are excellent in battle but their war with the Ozaergothe has dragged on for centuries. By comparison the humans have made huge progress in a short amount of time. So Jennifer Rodriguez is sent alone to an alien world where she must teach several Alliance misfits the human ways of war. But the veteran soldier has her own doubts about humanity and wonders if spreading that knowledge is the right thing to do.<<

Definitely take a look. Chapter One is already up as a rough first draft. If interested, go ahead and grab your copy today!

Thank You

Sean SM Hillman

Amira Wolf | 2 comments Hello there!

My name is A.K. Wolf and I'm a young aspiring writer! Currently, I have two books up on Inkshares. The first one entitled "Phantasia" is a small collection of fantasy short stories. The stories inside range from the Grim Reapers origin, to a mystical journal, to a father-daughter duo who maintain peace in the realm of all things supernatural (with a few illustrations here and there, but not many). https://www.inkshares.com/projects/ph...

The second book called "Without Light," and is only in draft mode so far, is a science-fiction book set in a world overrun by predatory shadow-like beasts who roam the night, and a mother, along with her son, must leave the safety of the city to find her missing husband who failed to come home. https://www.inkshares.com/projects/wi... You don't see many mother-son stories, and I liked the idea. Plus, I'm thinking of entering this into the Sword & Laser contest.

Anyway, if you could take a gander at one or both of the books that would be awesome and much appreciated! Thank you~

Wilson Geiger Hello there! My name is Wilson Geiger, author of the post-apocalyptic Ash & Flame series. I've recently made the plunge into Inkshares with a new book, titled Winter's Law, a fantasy Western.

Details below, and on Inkshares at: https://www.inkshares.com/projects/wi...

Shae Winter is a Sentinel, part-protector, part-killer, trained from youth to hunt the shades and monsters of the West. The Sentinel's weapon of choice? A mystical flintlock, embedded with the ability to pierce the world beyond.

Coffey is Shae's mentor, a hard-bitten, jaded man who has given his life in service to the Council.

Together they seek to rid this world of the creatures that stole Shae's childhood. But can she eliminate the unearthly presence of the sinister Daeva, when their very existence is a constant, shameful reminder of her greatest failure? And Coffey's greatest secret?

I'd love to hear what you think! I've posted a short teaser on the site, and thanks again for the warm welcome!

Billy O’Keefe (billyok) | 77 comments Hey everybody! Some of you folks have already met me on Inkshares/Twitter/email/etc.-where, but for those who haven't yet (and would like to), my name is Billy O'Keefe and I am pushing a weird little illustrated book called These are my Friends on Politics.

I've included the elevator/stuck-in-an-elevator pitches and other details below, but before I get to that, and just to reiterate what I said in the other intro thread, I want to preface by saying, very emphatically, that I'm here to do my part for every single one of you who also is running a campaign or launching a project. I know how challenging this whole portion of a book's full realization can be. So every hand helps, right? Contact me -- by email (billyok@mac.com), on twitter (@billyok) or through Goodreads -- and tell me about your project and how I can help. Include a link to it (and if you're savvy, add your referral code to the end of that link so I can help you help others as well) and I'll pick up a copy and probably multiple copies if the means allow it.

These are my Friends on Politics
Inkshares project page: https://www.inkshares.com/projects/th...
Project website: http://www.friendsonpolitics.com

The short elevator pitch: A child's book about (and possibly for) adults who occasionally behave like one. Exploring the mind-altering phenomenon known as the election year.

The longer pitch in case the elevator gets stuck

It happens, every day, often without warning. Normal grown adults — completely capable ones who do things like work in an office, pay bills on time and help their children with their homework — engage in a discussion, often by accident, about politics.

At least, it starts as a discussion. More often than anyone cares to admit, it descends into an argument, a blowout and eventually a volleyball match of personal attacks and insults these bill-paying, job-working, homework-helping, ostensibly fully together adults didn't even know they had in them. If you haven't been that person, you likely have met, befriended, worked with, crossed the street to avoid, unfollowed, been related to or perhaps even married that person. You'll know soon enough, because during election season, that person is about as hard to avoid as the politicians they're arguing about. (If you don't know if you are that person or not ... you might be that person. Sorry you had to find out this way.)

Sometimes, the only thing you can do is shake your head and laugh at it, which is what this colorfully illustrated book (sample pages below) aims to do. We will not probe the human condition or explore the biological processes that compel us to sabotage our otherwise pleasant days and good moods in the name of winning an argument no one ever wins. The only goal here, as another election year descends on us and threatens to pull yet another promising leap year into the darkness, is to marvel at how absurd these arguments can get. So let's put aside our differences (for 50-something pages at least) and do that.

Hellooooooo! (the extra O's are for emphasis)

My name is Jason Chestnut and I'm working on retro pulp space opera superspy adventure and have entered it into the current Nerdist contest! I'm really excited to be a part of this and to be on Inkshares...where have you been all my life? Love me. LOVE ME!

Anywho, "To Live and Die in Avalon" takes place in an alternate reality where the world ended way back in 1970 with a little over a quarter of the population saved by a benevolent force and relocated to a massive space station they named "Avalon". Since then they've retained the aesthetics of what they believed to be the height of their culture and history...the swingin' sixties!

The main character is a secret agent named Penelope "Penny" Thorne who is on a mission to recover a cryogenically frozen scientist who was put on ice before the world went kaput. An evil faction bent on galactic domination is desperately trying to recover the scientist, but to what nefarious end?

The book is to be a combination of old school space opera serials and sixties spy flicks with a good dose of self-aware humor thrown into the mix. Penny and her world has been rattling around in my head since I was a kid and first got obsessed with science fiction, space operas, spy movies and adventure stories! It would be...well, it would be a dream come true to see this published, but that gets said a lot, so let me see if I can rephrase that for originality's sake...

It would be a fantasy made reality? Wow, too creepy. Nevermind. You get the idea.

THANK YOU!

The story follows Tari, an elven princess, born within her woodland home, and with the death of her mother years past, she has grown into the heir she was meant to be. With her sudden visions of a strange man, an equally strange spirit and events of a great battle long ago, that no records or accounts have ever been recorded, except for a book which is found in her father’s possession. But her life is thrown into chaos as sudden events unfold after her abduction. Kidnapped by a group of mercenaries, she learns the wealth and knowledge of human magic and that her fate is tied to an ancient creature, which until recently, she had only known in stories.

And when Tasbi, Tari’s closest friend, follows closely in her footsteps to find her, she is immediately plunged into a city that is rife with murder and betrayal. Elayna (elaynamae) Hey there everyone! My name's Elayna and I'm sooo excited to have discovered the awesomeness of Inkshares through the Nerdist contest. Just thought I'd pop in and share a bit about my story with everyone!

As the description of my novel on Inkshares reads:

"They Are The last is part one of a young adult science fiction trilogy, which takes place on Alteria -a fantastical world across the stars, inhabited by beings who can wield the Light of their souls. It is also where the central story of They Are The Last takes place, and it is where Piper Anderson begins her adventure. After a loved one from her past returns to help her escape from Edgemont - a dystopic juvenile detention center set in Earth’s not-too-distant-future - Piper finds herself on a journey with the friends she thought she’d lost, to save her home world that she never knew existed."

I would love to get feedback/comments on the first chapter I have posted if people are willing to give it a look! I honestly can't contain how excited I've been to finally be putting this story out there, and the Inkshares community's been SO welcoming. :) So thanks for that.

The link to the 'They Are The Last' page is http://bit.ly/inktatl, and I've also started a tumblr for the series which I hope to soon be populating with fun extra content like aesthetically relevant fun stuff and extra pieces of content. You can check that out at http://alteriantrilogy.tumblr.com!

Best of wishes to everyone with their projects!! The amount of creative talent in here is just beyond fantastic, and I'm hella honored to become part of the group. ^_^

R.H. Webster (rh_webster) | 39 comments HI! I am RH Webster. You may call me Webster. I like being called Webster. :)

My book is currently titled Lucky. It started out as a working title but I'm thinking I might keep it. It seems to conjure up smiles and the opportunities for so many puns. And I do love puns so.

My novel has everything anyone could want from a space opera: space ships, romance, mystery, a high speed car chase, and even bar fights.

Lucky is the story of down-on-her-luck graduate student Cassandra "Lucky" Luckenbach, who has been stranded on a far-flung, dusty, run down mining colony on the planet known as San Pedro. After working odd jobs around the colony for close to three years, she finally saves up enough money to get back to her family on Earth. She books passage on the freighter Rosebud (the spaceship), unaware that one of the crewmembers had been killed the night before (in a bar fight). She is offered an opportunity to work her way back to Earth as an administrative assistant to the ever-confusing, often grumpy commander of the Rosebud, Trigg Donner.

What neither Trigg nor Lucky planned on was the attraction they feel for each other (the romance), nor the strange goings-on that continue to occur on board the ship as they make their way to Puerto Nuevo (the mystery). Life only gets stranger as they find themselves embroiled in a smuggling scandal (the high speed car chase, another bar brawl) and they're forced to make difficult decisions in order to save what is most important to them.

My novel is the result of driving from El Paso, Texas, to Tuscaloosa, Alabama three times in one year. It's a long haul and the majority of it is monotonous and dull. There are parts of Texas where, if you see a gas station, you stop no matter what because you don't know how far away the next station might be. Also, last time I did the drive, cellphones don't work out there. If you break down or you run out of gas, you're in big trouble and there's little to save you. I imagine this world to be a dusty, used future where the bright hope of a new frontier led to tough settlers who had to fight elements and each other to survive. In my mind, the soundtrack has a lot of old country songs and old rock songs on it.

I would love to receive feedback on the excerpts I have online. I'm in the editing process right now, so anything and everything helps hone this into a truly enjoyable story.

I can't say enough about the support that I've received from the Inkshares/Goodreads community. I wish I had known about all of this three years ago when I started this adventure. Thank you all.

Hey RH! Should I call you RH? :)

Your book sounds very cool and I think it could be really successful. I'm pulling for you to win this Nerdist contest, and I can't wait to read your excerpts instead of doing the 50 other things I need to be doing instead.

Do you have a 30 - 50-word blurb for you book that you can share with us? It would make it easier for me to recommend it to people, and you could put it on your book project page as the blurb text right under the title. That will help get people interested at a glance.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for your support, Cara! The current blurb I'm using is this: "Unusual circumstances on a rural planet put Cassandra "Lucky" Luckenbach on a new path that she never would have expected. Serving as a temporary replacement on the freighter Rosebud, she finds herself tangled in an unexpectedly dangerous situation." Does this help or do you think I should rework it?

Thank YOU!

Christopher Huang (christopher_huang) | 73 comments Miss Webster, you might want to add a modifier of some sort to that title; research shows that there already exist at least two novels entitled "Lucky": one by Jackie Collins, and one by Alice Sebold. Perhaps, as your heroine begins the story in a mining colony, you would consider "Lucky on the Rocks"?

You make a good point, Christopher. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm looking at some different words and phrases now (the thesaurus is my most favorite dinosaur!) to see what else exists in the general spirit of my thinking. I've come across two possibilities:

Lucky Stars
Lucky Break

Since it's a space opera, I figure the first is pretty good if it's not too cliche. And since my character Lucky gets a new career almost by chance, I'm thinking the second one isn't bad. However, I don't want it mistaken for like a Vegas thriller or something.

I'll keep hunting around to see. What do you think?

Christopher Huang (christopher_huang) | 73 comments I like punny titles. With a heroine named Lucky, I think you should take full advantage of all the possibilities for double meanings: Lucky at Cards, Lucky in Love, Getting Lucky, Lucky for You, and so on. I'm not so fond of either Lucky Stars or Lucky Break because, although they make use of the heroine's name, they don't really do the double meaning pun thing.

Mark Ciccone | 2 comments Hello, everybody!

My name is Mark Ciccone. I came to Inkshares at the recommendation of a friend and fellow writer, and am thrilled at the chance to publish on this site, rather than wading through the self-publishing or traditional agent/publisher ordeals. Towards that end, I felt like sharing a bit about my project--one of many, hopefully!

My novel, Discarded, began funding at the start of this month. Here's the link:
https://www.inkshares.com/books/disca...

The story is set in a recovering post-apocalyptic world, just a few short years after what is widely referred to as the "Turmoil": a worldwide mess of brushfire, civil, and regional wars, environmental disasters, nuclear attacks, and riots, cyberattacks, bombings and all-around chaos. In the wake of all this, two genetically engineered former soldiers, Greg and Leah, embark on a mission to uncover information on Project Golem, the organization that molded them into the ideal covert ops supersoldier for the U.S. Already nonexistent as far as the CIA and the Pentagon are concerned, these two--and others like them--have lived underground and in the shadows, considered MIA or KIA since the destruction of the Project's main facility in the nuclear bombing of Seattle, and subsequent targeted attacks by the militaries of target nations--or, in their case, the U.S.'s , in a supposed "friendly fire" incident. Now, however, they have begun to form a community of their own "kind", in secret--and seek the means not only to make it permanent, but to understand how they came to exist, and what lives they can build.

Recovering the information with relative ease, they begin the trip back to this community, across a slowly-recovering United States. But there is much more to the secret of their existence than they ever thought possible. And there are those who not only do not believe the "Golems" to be extinct, but want to see them destroyed at all costs...and to use this destruction for their own ends.

I welcome any comments, advice and recommendations! This is the first novel-length work in any genre that I'm attempting to publish, and any and all feedback is much appreciated.

The funny story is how I got that name: from the time I was in the 4th grade until I graduated high school, I received almost all 100% grades on my English, Spelling and Grammar tests. There were a lot of times I would be in my room and my mom would yell up the stairs "WEBSTER! HOW DO YOU SPELL KITCHEN? IS THE T FIRST OR THE C?" So from then on, my name was Webster. My sister even named a cat Webster after me. :)

Christopher Leone | 20 comments Hi Inksharers!

My name is Christopher Leone and I'm a filmmaker usually and now a first-time author. My book is called Champions of the Third Planet and I'll link to it...right...HERE.

I've actually written a lot more than has ever seen the light of day but I did co-create & write a miniseries called THE LOST ROOM that was on SyFy a while back and more recently I wrote & directed a digital feature called PARALLELS for Fox Digital that's on Netflix & Amazon.

I wanted to write a book for a lot of reasons. One, I was an obsessive reader as a kid and always wanted to write a novel one day. Two, Champions of the Third Planet has such a gigantic scope and would be so expensive as a film I didn't just want to write it as a script and take my chances in Hollywood. I have a few old scripts like that that are just on a shelf and I couldn't let that happen to this one. And three, unlike film or TV -- which takes an ARMY to create -- writing a novel would mean creating something solely on my own: a finished thing that was just mine, flaws and all.

I also wanted to write a kids' novel, but actually what I'm writing is a book for ME when I was a kid. I certainly HOPE real kids like it too, and grown-ups like it for that matter, but 10-year-old me is the audience. When I was that age I used to always wish I'd stumble across a spaceship that would fly me into STAR WARS, and when I remembered that fantasy it made me want to write a book about it. I had a happy childhood and loved STAR WARS so I wanted to write a love letter to both.

The idea is, what if a kid named Milo found a black Orb that suddenly appeared in the woods? The Orb didn't seem to do anything, but he and a few other kids -- it became his little sister and his bully from school -- end up inside this thing...and the Orb turns out to be a trap from outer space. It flies them to a distant planet where the five kids are injected with "robocytes" to make them stronger and faster and then they are PUT INTO AN ARENA TO FIGHT ALIENS FROM ALL OVER THE GALAXY. They're alien gladiatorial matches, teams of 5 vs. 5. And at the top of the heap is the Champion, and if the kids ever want to go home, they have to beat it, whatever it is. So, to everyone's surprise, the Earth kids start to get good. They learn how to fight as a team. They start to win.

Anyway I think it's a pretty rip-roaring space adventure, and pretty funny at times, but with one big heartbreak in there that hopefully you won't see coming.

I've also noticed that when I start to write something I don't know what it's really about, and the process of writing reveals (to me!) what the book is REALLY about. And in Champions the more I wrote, the more I discovered some deeper themes in the book about learning compassion, and actually seeing others (humans and aliens) for who they are, which is not always your first idea of them.

Anyway I hope you'll check out Champions of the Third Planet and even more I hope you show it to a kid who might love it the way 10-year-old me would have.

Muchas gracias, merci beaucoup, danke schon, thank you...etc.

Mark Ciccone | 2 comments Evening, all!

Discarded is humming along nicely at this point; there’s thrilling action and revelations galore, all coming together in ways I hadn’t pictured or even considered when this draft first started. I’m still aiming for a finish by the end of this coming week; barring that, coming near enough that I can dive back in at any time during my future projects, while keeping a close eye on the campaign’s progress. I actually experimented with writing the epilogue well before the first round of draft work and edits; not my preferred method, but it opened up some new options on the rest of the story, and the majority of it has stayed the same, so far. We’ll see soon enough how much it might need to change, and the draft as well; there’s only a one or two more chapters to go!

On this note, I have an announcement: Though there’s still a fair amount of time left in my campaign, I haven’t had quite as much success as I would like getting the word out, and feel a bit worried about making even the Quill goal. So, to give the campaign a boost, I’ve decided to offer the following, to all current and potential readers and followers:

1. For every 25 future pre-orders, I will post a new excerpt from Discarded, and the last person to order will receive a free copy of my Alternate History e-novella, Dillinger in Charleston (available on Amazon Kindle and Smashwords.com)

2. For every 50 pre-orders, I will post a section--marked out by Roman numerals in the chapters already posted--and the last 5 people to order will receive copies of DIC.

This offer will run for the duration of the campaign. I’ll be keeping careful daily track of any orders; if you are one of the novella winners, and have a particular way you’d like the work sent to you, let me know anytime. If you’re not able to order for whatever reason, just share and recommend! Let’s get the word out!

Zack Jordan (zackjordan) | 35 comments Hi everybody! My name is Zack and I am a maker and doer of things. Nice to meet everyone!

I am a composer / recording artist under the name U.S. Killbotics.

I'm a game/UX designer under the name Pixelwelders. I've worked on a few big titles (F.E.A.R 3, World of Tanks), but my favorite is one that I did all by myself called Killbot. It's about a little pink killbot who wants a new career.

I run a crowdfunded spice company called Tonguespank.

And last but not least, I am writing a novel called The Life Interstellar.

The Life Interstellar is a rip-roaring, unapologetic space opera. It’s set in a crowded galaxy at some undetermined point in the future where the Humans, sadly, have been exterminated. No one seems to know what happened to them, a fact which only adds to their mystique. What kind of intelligence could wipe out four trillion beings in a single Galactic year and yet make each death look like an accident? From novas to starship crashes to an isolated escalator incident on Braka IV, what made the Humans so special–or so frightening–that they warranted such treatment?

This is how legends are born. Humans have been the boogeymen of the galaxy for hundreds of years now; these days it would be difficult to find someone who didn’t know a good Human horror story. Lately, though, a different sort of legend has arisen. Ships have returned from the less-traveled tradeways of the Rim, missing cargo and crew members but bearing tales of a new band of smugglers and pirates, headed by a captain who looks a lot like the galaxy’s worst nightmare: a real-live Human.

See ya around!

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Hello everyone!

As my backers have probably already heard, I'm trying to get 37 more pre-orders for Scribbles: A Collection of Words to reach the halfway point to Quill, and as a promotional reason AND because I've tried my hand at an audiobook version of one of my stories, I'm going to release the super secret story I've added to Scribbles, followed by a video with more tidbits and snippets of what I have in store for readers.

So any help with an order push for this video and for me to reach the Quill goal would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any ideas or are interested in collaborating with me, please email me at tcbbcfangirl@gmail.com

Thanks!

Story: To save her mad scientist uncle, a clever young girl must confront galactic weirdness from across time and space. Contents: Aliens, Robots, Time Travel...and plucky female prepubescent moxie! Michael Haase (rodentwriter) | 10 comments Hello! My name is Michael Haase and I am new to the inkshares community, but I am extremely glad I arrived, and now my inkshares experience has led me here. What a fantastic opportunity to network! Anyhow, here is my pitch:

The Madness of Mr. Butler:

The Madness of Mr. Butler is a satirical space opera packed with adventure, mystery, and drama. Swiftly alternating between character perspectives, the novel has an aggressive pace that keeps the reader locked into the story. Mr. Butler is packed with sharp turns around every corner that will drive you to read more and more until you’ve finished the entire book, reflecting on how it made you think, laugh, and wonder the entire time.

The story follows Thaddeus Butler, a man thought to be insane because he is the only person who believes his world is round and floating through space. One evening, Mr. Butler tracks an object he witnessed fall from the night sky, only to find a strange helmet. After deciding to don the helmet, he is overjoyed to hear a voice inside that proceeds to answer all of his questions about the universe. Mr. Butler then shares his discovery with the intention of both educating others and proving his sanity. Unfortunately, he accidentally convinces a growing majority that he can speak directly to God, and he is treated as a prophet, not a scientist. Mr. Butler suddenly finds his life turned upside down as he must fend off a growing number of followers he does not want, violent attempts to steal his “God helmet,” a King hell-bent on hanging Mr. Butler for blasphemy, and the demands of a voice that claims to be God himself.

Here's the page for the book: https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-m...

Thanks for checking it out, and any feedback is welcome! Please don't hesitate to pitch me your book as well!

Cheers!
