Happy Birthday to your Dad! :D"
Awesome! Thank you Morgan! Hope you enjoy Dune!
Cathy wrote: "Can the movie be "made for TV" like the Outlander series?"Sorry, no. We are looking for movies with a theatrical release. "Outlander," which I love, is a series.

This book works! Have fun!
Elizabeth wrote: "Would
or
work for option C (paved road)?"Hi! Anathem will not work because those are stairs, not a paved road.
The Diamond Age appears to have a paved street. I would approve this one.
Sirena wrote: "Trish wrote: "Would this work for Option C?
"That is definitely a horizon. This book works. Enjoy!"
Cheers, Sirena

"Yes, this book works for the 1 book option. I might use it myself!
Would any of the books work for Option C, Paved road
, The road is on the left hand side of the page . It is a night scene but you can see a line of traffic
This one has a bit of Horizon and the road goes from the lower right hand side to the bright spot below the "o" in the title.
the man in the hat is walking down a foggy London street.

"Confirmed! Hope it is a good read!
Book Concierge wrote: "Does this work for horizon ... Option 1 C
"This works for option C. It also has a paved road, which is an option for C, as well. :)
Sirena, if the SF list names a trilogy, may we read any book of the trilogy rather than the first one as shown?
Sirena wrote: "Book Concierge wrote: "Does this work for horizon ... Option 1 C

I couldn't quite tell if it was paved or dirt ....
Bea wrote: "Sirena, if the SF list names a trilogy, may we read any book of the trilogy rather than the first one as shown?"Yes,that is fine. I think just make sure to point out it is part of that series.

Well, now I have a choice to make as I also found that Blind Descent is set in New Mexico.

Good luck! :)
Anne (Booklady) wrote: "Opt C PAVED ROAD/STREET

Any work? thanks"
I'm going to approve Once We Were Brothers and Pray for Silence because they are paved roads/streets.
I can't really tell if that is a road or a landing strip on the cover of Area 7, so I don't think that will work.

Thanks for approving the two books :)
For Opt C would you accept either
(paved road) or The Scent of Rain and Lightening https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... (horizon). For some reason, the image is blank when I try to add the cover from add book/author.
KSMary wrote: "For Opt C would you accept either

Would this work for option 2? I'm not sure if that's a horizon or not, it is on the Top Sci-Fy/Fantasy list and it has 864 pages.
puppitypup wrote: "Would this work for option 2? I'm not sure if that's a horizon or not, it is on the Top Sci-Fy/Fantasy list and it has 864 pages.
"Well, Merriam Webster defines Horizon as the apparent junction of earth and sky. So, this book definitely works for option 2! Enjoy :)
For Option B...Would
work for this? The Martian IMDB It has not yet been released (slated for October 2) so would it not yet be eligible to claim? I wasn't sure if your statement in the task "The movie must have been a theatrical release" was meant to imply the movie must have already been released, or to clarify it must have been a theater movie as opposed to a Made-For-TV-Movie.
Thanks for clarifying...

Yes, this book qualifies for B. Sorry about the confusing language. It was meant to distinguish movies from TV movies and series.

My dad is the greatest man I will ever know! His birthday is in November, so this task was designed to honor him.
Option 1: 2 Books (Pick 2 books from 2 separate choices)
A. My dad is a HUGE movie buff! He even compulsively buys Blu-rays of movies he has never seen! For this option, read a book which has been made into a movie that you HAVE NOT seen but would like to. The movie must have been a theatrical release. REQUIRED: Name the movie and include a link to Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb in your post.
NOTE: The movie can be made from only part of the book. For instance, The Once and Future King and The Sword in the Stone.
B. My dad is a voracious reader. For this option, read his favorite book, DUNE by Frank Herbert, or pick from the NPR Top 100 Science Fiction & Fantasy Books list: NPR Top 100 Science Fiction and Fantasy books. If an entire series is listed as one item, you may read any book from that series.
C. Daddy is a biker from waaaay back. He is happiest, I think, when he is riding the open road on his Harley. For this option, read a book with a cover featuring a PAVED ROAD, HORIZON, or a MOTORCYCLE. The Horizon must be one that my dad could see from his motorcycle - so there must be some land in the foreground of the cover.
Examples:
Required: Include the cover in your post.
D. My dad traveled extensively when he served in the United States Air Force, but there are only a handful of places that are significant for him and his family. Read a book that is set at least 50% in one of these locations: HAWAII, KOREA, BELGIUM, SAUDI ARABIA, OR NEW MEXICO.
E. My dad loves to talk politics! We NEVER agree on anything, but at least he keeps himself...informed. For this choice, read a non-fiction book with the genre of POLITICS, embedded or stand alone.
Option 2: 1 Book
For this option, pick 1 book that fits 2 of the above choices (A-E) AND is at least 580 pages.
