This is a historical fiction novel that takes place during the Second World War. This novel follows the story about a British Special Operations Executive agent, Julia Beaufort-Stuart, being captured in enemy territory, and interrogated by the Nazis in France. Verity’s interrogators gave her two simple choices- reveal all of her countries military secrets (mainly about Air Transport Auxiliary), or be executed. She made a deal with Huaptsturmfuhrer to give him all the information he wanted. Throughout the entire “confession” she talked about Maddie Brodatt. Maddie is a women ATA pilot in this novel. The whole purpose of this novel is that Elizabeth Wein, an actual pilot, wanted to explore the possibilities that would have been open to her during the Second World War. The book summary really caught my attention; it had a great choice of diction that just made me want to read it. The summary was filled with action and drama; however, once I began to read this novel the story line was very slow, dull, and boring. There are people who would be interested in this type of novel, sadly i am just not one of them.
I loved this book SO MUCH! I can see what you mean, about the plot moving slowly and the action taking a while to happen. But, if you are a Historical Fiction nerd (like me) it's worth reading for an insight into WWII
