Ian The 90s had a plethora of evil clowns for some reason. I guess because everyone fucking hates clowns, but 2 stand tall above the rest. Who is the greater villain and deserves the title as the best? I vote for Kefka due to sheer magnitude.

Pennywise - kills several hundred people in several hundred years in 1 small town in Maine.

Kefka - kills over 1/2 the human population and devastates the planet. Continents are literally split in half by his destructive power.

Pennywise - when he dies it results in the destruction of a small town in Maine.

Kefka - When he dies, nearly the whole fucking planet is destroyed and all magic in the Universe ceases to exist since Kefka was the God of all magic.

Pennywise- can be defeated by literally anyone that doesn't fear him and stands up to him. Use a hunk of silver and slingshot. Or your bare fists. As long as you believe it will kill him, it will.

Kefka- Is barely defeated by the planet's top 12 warriors including a demi-God ganging up on him and using powerful, holy artifacts

Winner- Kefka

Richard No idea who Kefka is but guess I don't need to read it now

Gerd Looks like Pennywise wins by sheer renown over the virtually unknown "God of all magic".

Ian I failed to foresee the generational gap on this one. Readers over 35 and non-gamers will not know who Kefka is. Anyone who owned a SNES will.

So indeed Pennywise wins, by the sheer fact of traumatising a generation of children at the mere sight of a clown. No games there..........

Jonnathan Kefka is the main antagonist of the game Final Fantasy VI:

Kefka wasn't a clown, he was a fucking lunatic. And "Pennywise" is only a reflection, a very small one, of It. But if we're voting anyway, Kefka. It wasn't a lunatic, It was involved in a spiritual war. Kefka was genuinely insane, and that is frightening.

EDIT: For an entire website that is about story-telling, I'm honestly a bit surprised how few people know of one of the truly most devastating characters to ever be written up: Kefka Pilazzo. If you guys want a beautiful, graceful story, play Final Fantasy VI. You will cry your eyes out at least twice. You will cheer, flinch, cringe, laugh and experience one of the most interesting stories ever. As far as plot, characters and depth go, the novel It and the game Final Fantasy VI are quite equal.

This site is not about storytelling but about BOOKS in all of their appearences and final fantasy is a game, hence the bookish character is better known.

GOODREADS not GOODGAMES

Ian Goodreads is not just for novels but plays, poems, and other mediums. A game is a visual mode of storytelling, but so are plays. In addition, as an old game all lines are text rather than spoken, so it's in fact a READ. An extensive read at that.

Indeed, so are movies & tv a visual mode of storytelling but it does have its own sites where reviews are more welcome.
I still stand by my notion that games as such are not reading material. The novelsisations, guides and handbooks listed on this site are different material of course.

But I only stated that so few people know the character Kefka Pilazzo because it is a more bookreading kind of place. I had never heard of the chap before and finding out that he is gaming character made me lose interest in him immediately, as that medium has zero interest for me. Even when it comes to games based upon books.

The visual despiction of Pennywise by Tim Curry was brilliant and worthy of plenty of nightmares, the bookversion was excellent in his own right.

I'll take Ligotti's Clown Puppet.

Radicalskull Kefka.
I remember playing the games as a kid, and I loved that character. And yes, I do know Pennywise, but I was reading Goosebumps when I was younger, not Stephen King, haha! So, yup. Kefka's a pretty nostalgic part of my childhood.

Kathy Pennywise...When he was in the drainage ditch...to this day I'm still scared of clowns!

Lela "Pennywise- can be defeated by literally anyone that doesn't fear him and stands up to him. Use a hunk of silver and slingshot. Or your bare fists. As long as you believe it will kill him, it will."

Correction: I have read the book, and not everyone who doesn't fear him can beat him. There is one member of the Losers (I won't spoil, cause it will happen in the next movie) who died trying to take him on even though he wasn't afraid. Besides, silver and slingshots certainly could hurt him, maybe make him disappear for a while if you're lucky, but it won't ever kill him. There is only one way to kill him, and that is the Ritual of Chüd, but it is just as dangerous for anyone doing the ritual as it is for Pennywise, so it could end up as a "everyone dies" sorta deal...

Melanie Downes I got to say Pennywise was a terrific evil clown of all
