Tim | 10 comments Hi folks my name is Tim, and i'm new here. Thank you for letting me join your group. I was a member of another Stephen R. Lawhead group that seems to have gone away somehow, and was very happy when I stumbled upon this one. Here is a meager introduction of myself: I'm a 38 year old male from Pennsylvania who is a casual reader at best. I find that these days I have a hard time reading as much as i'd like with my busy schedule. I began my Stephen R. Lawhead journey about 6 years ago when I started reading a copy of The Paradise War my mother had bought me at a local Christian bookstore. It had been on my bookshelf for several years prior to that, but for some reason I decided to start reading it that day. Since then I have been hooked! I really loved the way Mr. Lawhead described the various places of Albion, and the people living there, and that prompted me to continue the rest of the Song of Albion trilogy. Since then I have read Dream Thief, Patrick: Son of Ireland, Byzantium, and The Skin Map. I have listened to the SOA trilogy on audio book (didn't like it as much as reading the actual books), and I am currently in the process of listening to the Pendragon Cycle on audio as well. (just started Merlin today!) I am hoping to start reading the Bright Empires series from the beginning in the near future. I guess that is the cheap version of me, but if anyone has any questions or comments I would be very open to getting a discussion going. Take Care!

Werner Tim, welcome to our group; it's nice to "meet" you (electronically)!

We already have a thread titled "Introduce Yourselves," but it doesn't always show up on the group homepage when you first click on it; the program only shows about five discussion threads at a time, but has links to lists of the rest. The individual link to that thread is www.goodreads.com/topic/show/296667-i... , in case you'd like to check it out to get acquainted with others in the group!

Tim | 10 comments Thanks Werner! Sorry about posting my intro in the wrong thread, I didn't realize there was one already started until after I posted mine and was mulling around the group pages. :)

Werner No problem, Tim!

Welcome Tim!!!

We are pretty quiet group that manages a group read about once every 2-3 years. The Song of Albion trilogy was one of my favorites!!! I just listened to Merlin on audio a couple of months ago. To be honest, I didn't enjoy it as much as others I've read. I think that one reason is that I don't always do well listening to fantasy books.

I also read The Skin Map, but haven't continued with Bright Empires because I generally prefer to read series after they are all published :-). The memory isn't as good as it used to be :-)

Tim | 10 comments Hi JoLene and Adam, Thanks for welcoming me to the group. I agree that the Song of Albion trilogy is definitely my favorite, but I really enjoyed Patrick and Byzantium as well. Dream Thief was ok in my opinion, but not one of my favorites. Overall I find that I am not enjoying the audiobooks as much as actually reading a book either, but it is convenient considering I sit at a desk most of the day and have the opportunity to listen to them. So far I have listened to the SOA trilogy and Taliesin and i'm about a quarter of the way thru Merlin. I'm in my late 30's but I totally understand what you mean about remembering things that I have read; especially if I try to read through a book too fast. I try to take my time reading and actually enjoy the book which helps me remember what I read years later. I read The Skin Map when it first came out, but I am going to re-read it once I get back into the Bright Empires series ago. Speaking of Bright Empires, has anyone heard when the final book in the series is going to be released? Or a possible name for the last installment? I have looked on SRL's website as well as other sites like amazon, but I have been unable to find any information as of yet.

Tegid | 3 comments Hi, Tim, and welcome! Glad to have you here!

The fifth and final volume of the Bright Empires series, 'The Fatal Tree,' is due out in early September. This summer would be a good time to read the first four books in preparation for the series' conclusion.

Tim | 10 comments Hi Tegid! (I love your name btw!) Thank you so much for that link to the newest installment of Bright Empires. As I said, I had looked on Amazon several times before to find it and was unsuccessful. I agree that this coming summer is the perfect time to get caught up and ready for the newest one. I'm very much looking forward to it!

Werner My Goodreads friend Jackie (who's also a Lawhead fan, though not a member of this group) and I did the first three novels of the Bright Empires series as buddy reads, and we're planning to read the fourth one, The Shadow Lamp together next month. I'd say that the novels in the series so far are not Lawhead's best work; but they're still enjoyable reads.

I saw on Facebook that Lawhead was going to post something on March 23 --- maybe a "deal" on the books in Bright Empire.

message 12: by Tim (new)

Tim | 10 comments I saw that as well! I was wondering if it had something to do with the Bright Empires series too. I guess we will find out about a week from now.

Werner When Lawhead makes his announcement, I hope some members will post about it in this group, for the benefit of those of us who aren't on Facebook!

message 15: by Tim (new)

Tim | 10 comments Werner, I will be happy to post the announcement/news here in this forum as soon as I hear it. I am hoping it is some sort of a Bright Empires collection of digital downloads. I currently have the first 2 installments in hardcover form, but I would really like a "bundle" deal/collection of digital copies so I can read them on my ipad. Just my wish but I guess time will tell. :)

I'm also assuming that it is something e-book-ish. I hope that it's not just a deal on the first one because that was actually the first book that I bought on my Kindle :-D

message 18: by Tim (new)

Tim | 10 comments Well we got our wish (sort of).....Today Mr. Lawhead announced via Facebook the each book of The Dragon King Trilogy is on sale for just .99 cents each! For some reason I can't copy and paste the link, but they are available on Amazon's "Kindle Daily Deal" page.

If you buy the Kindle book, then you can get the audio for additional .99

Paradise Wars is the Kindle Deal today (March 28) --- it looks like just the first one.

Dianne Astle | 6 comments I should show up on this group more often. Missed the sale. Someone in my family took my Lawhead and Terry Brooks books away for exchange. I was not impressed.
