Jordan Woods I am not a Muslim but I am curious about Islam. I was raised a Christian and became agnostic/atheist when I was 20 or so I am currently 26. I studied Mormonism for awhile Jehovah's witnesses new age stuff as well but something got me interested in Islam and I was wondering if perhaps someone might want to share how they came to know the Quran was true and how to know it is true? Mormonism, asks you to pray to find out but that never worked for me personally so how do I know if it is true?

Farah Ali | 5 comments When you have belief in God, the next step is to follow a religion - your question being how do you know that Islam is the true religion? Well from what I know only Judaism, Christianity and Islam are rooted in the Prophethood from the first Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) and if you follow Islam down to the last and seal of the Prophets Muhammad (peace be upon him). The distinction in Islam being there is only ONE God whereas in Christianity there is a son of God. It is the biggest sin to associate partners with God in Islam. God doesn't have any sort of family. He is the creator of all beings and everything else is the creation. God sent Prophets (peace be upon them) to guide mankind on the straight path and revealed books of revelation such as the Torah and the Bible which Muslims believe have been distorted and altered over time. The Quran is the literal word of God which has not been altered and there are no discrepancies in it unlike the others (Torah and Bible) everything is accurate and the truth. Try reading the English meaning of the Quran you can get a free copy from the quranproject website they offer the Sahih International edition, Abdullah Yusuf Ali and M.A.S Abdel Haleem are among many others translators you can try reading they should be available on Amazon. You will not be able to find any mistakes in the Quran, once you recognise its the truth it will God willing help you to accept Islam. If you want further knowledge about Islam (the Quran and the Sunnah - the way of life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him) I have personally found watching Islamic YouTube channels very beneficial as they explain things and better my understanding of Islam, such channels like the Prophets Path, Merciful Servant and the Daily Reminder. You can also try other YouTube channels like the NAK collections which features Nouman Ali Khan who I find is a very good speaker, Yasmin Mogahid and Mufti Menk are also very good - try searching for them on Youtube. This God willing should be helpful in finding an answer to your question. Also continue praying to God and ask to be guided on the right path. I wish you well and hope you become Muslim.

Farah Ali | 5 comments I would probably go with the third one on your list as it has commentary and notes too...the one translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali.

Just thought I'd put the links for these others down too:

I think the Sahih International translation is one of the most recommended as it is meant to be an easy to read translation. I've put there web address below if you want to get a free copy you only need to pay postage and packaging.

I think this is supposed to be good too.
The Qur'an (Oxford World's Classics) Paperback by M. A. S. Abdel Haleem (Translator)

You can find it on amazon, here's the link:

Hope this helps.

Imran Abdul Haqiim | 4 comments I'm currently reading a translation by M.A.S. Abdel Haleem. It's also easy to read. This is the recommendation of Ustaz Nouman Ali Khan, who runs a language institute teaching Qur'anic Arabic, Bayyinah, in the US. You can actually access his courses online if you're willing to pay US $11 a month. I'm a subscriber because I like his work in particular, the Arabic course and the Qur'an cover-to-cover explanations he provides.

Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, a well-known Islamic scholar in the US recommends "The Essential Koran" by Thomas Cleary. I have a copy of his translation but I found the formatting a little difficult to follow.

The best way to find out if it is true is to actually read it...each person has their own opinions on what makes it amazing, but anyway, here is my personal stance...

You can more or less study any subject in the Qur'an and find that the circumstances that the Prophet (upon him be peace) were in would have been impossible to overcome except by divine guidance, i.e. he has access to knowledge AND/OR the means that historically speaking, he shouldn't have had access to, but that normally bails him and his followers out of the obstacles he faced. What they were acting upon were always based on some God-sent wisdom or ethics, the consequence of following which gave them victory. In other words, he conquered and united Arabia with nothing materially, and everything spiritually, which is enough proof for me that the God (Glorified and Exalted is He!) of Muhammad (upon him be peace) is real.

Wayfarer (spec) | 1 comments Jordan - Having quickly scanned the above thread - I'd say the best way to know Islam is to read about the Prophet of Islam - the beauty of his character, morals and the message that he called to - the worship of the One True God.

As for the Qur'an, Muslims believe that it is the uncorrupted word of God, in the Arabic - it is a living miracle! However, if you don't know Arabic, you'll be dependant on a human translation which can't capture the inimitable nature of the Book. Hence the above mentioned "thesis" can't be tested.

Fuzaila (feistyhijabi) | 2 comments I have always believed in Allah and his prophets. And from what I know of the religion, it is impossible for some mere human being or even a group of people to write (God forbid!) and publish something so sacred and divine as The Holy Quran. Really, you can read it for yourself and see what I'm saying.
And when I pray to God and get my prayers answered there's always this feeling that I'm being watched, cared for. You just can't not believe once you get to know the religion. It is nothing but true.
